For those interested, <b>John Shaw</b>, whom you may remember from <a href="http://www.freewebs.com/aesthetictech/absurd.htm">The Absurd Nethack Tile project</a> which we also use here on our forum to represent <a href="http://www.nethack.org">Nethack</a>, has emailed me with word that him and <b>entro-p</b> have teamed up to work on a 3D version of <A href="http://www.nethack.org">Nethack</a> and the popular varient known as <A href="http://slashem.sourceforge.net/">SLASH'EM</a>. The project is known as <A href="http://noegnud.sourceforge.net/">noeGNUd</a>.

Keep in mind that these <a href="http://noegnud.sourceforge.net/screenshots.shtml">screenshots</a> are of an early version, and the goal of <A href="http://noegnud.sourceforge.net/">noeGNUd</a> is to eventually replace all the graphics with 3D models. There is a playable beta version that you can <a href="http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=72343">download</a> now if you want, as well.

Like the site says, <i>it's all about choice</i>.

I have to admit, it's a hell of a lot easier to get tilesets working in noeGNUd than it is in the normal nethack. I never could get any tiles working in vanilla nethack, even using the same config you had, if you remember that fun IRC conversation about it. I'm still not sure what the deal is with that. They're just drop and play with noeGNUd, and they work flawlessly. I really dig the aoki isometric tileset.

That's pretty good work, but I think I'll stick with standard SLASM EM graphics. For some reason, it's very cute to me....
