You may have noticed that there hasn't been any news about Baldur's Gate 3 since the game received its last major update back in February. What have Larian been up to over the past few months? GameSpot decided to ask Swen Vincke that question as part of their recent two day Play For All Live stream. Apparently the studio has been very busy, but the game's next update is "around the corner". The update will be focused more on features than on new content, with an emphasis on combat and in particular the melee classes, which Swen says aren't interesting enough right now. In the longer term, there are big things coming to Baldur's Gate 3 and according to Swen, players who only saw the initial Early Access release might be shocked by how different it will look by the end.

The most important takeaway from the interview is that Baldur's Gate 3 is now officially not coming out this year. Larian are aiming for a release in 2022, but Swen sounds like he's not entirely sure about that either.

Will we be looking at this game twenty years down the line when a fresh e-book is released about one of the main characters fondling herself as she recalls the wonderful time when she was gang-raped by a pack of orcs?

Personally, I don't think it will live up to the original.

so basically people want 'awesome buttons' and special attacks every round or they whine and complain 'there is not enough to do?'? This is why these games actually work better as single player games where you control a party that works together, but modern game developers think the exact opposite way and don't understand this, thus they make every class that eventually works like some type of 'magic user' w/ special awesome splosion' attacks etc on cooldowns or design oil and acid barrels littered along every deer path 400 miles into the wilderness....

That is why modern day thieves have become these crazy massive DPS damage dealers instead of what they used to be..yeah they would do an occasional backstab, but it was not every single attack or thought of as a 'glass cannon DPS guy'...

edit: The fighter is a 'tutorial class'..okay whatever...lol..such decline way of thinking..

Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Holy hell the broad in the picture looks so horrible I thought it was done kind of sjw parody. Only thing missing are the spikey glasses.
I still don't understand what happened to larian divine divinity was genuinely good and all the other games at least up to dragon commander were at least in part fun and had creative ideas. I guess they became so big that they hired an HR department

Exactly. The reason is: co-op. They're developing BG3 in a way that some console shmuck wouldn't be bored to death by controling two or maybe even single character all session through. Same goes for every possible enviroment interaction or combos - to chukle in discord one more time etc. Probably same goes for reasoning behind delegating stuff like disengage or jump to bonus action in order to people not to be bothered by the fact that they spent their entire turn on such "useless" thing.

Big worry. The melee classes are just fine in 5th ed, as Solasta proved. All you need to do is implement the rules properly. Swen implemented his own mad scientist version of 5th ed and now they find that they're running into all kinds of design problems. Well no shit, huh?

You do know thieves hasn't been a class since e2, right, old man?
If you meant rogues, who appeared as separate class in e3, well they were glass Cannons with shitton of skills, that backstabbed anyone who was under wide arrange of debuffs.
And if you gonna say that you did in fact mean 2e thieves- Fuck You, they were dogshit version of the assassins from e1, which also were glass canons with 50% chance to oneshot on backstab.

It's a game supplement without ruleset, that you apply to various rpg rulesets, like D&D.
:deathclaw:
It literally says that on the box.
