The one Codex-relevant title shown during Gamescom opening night yesterday was not something anybody was expecting. What looked like a cinematic trailer for yet another forgettable licensed Marvel action game turned out to be the announcement of a turn-based tactical RPG from XCOM studio Firaxis called Marvel's Midnight Suns. The game is based on the Rise of the Midnight Sons storyline from the early 1990s, which involves a team of Marvel's edgier supernatural heroes taking on Lilith, the mother of all demons. Here's the trailer:
Several websites got to speak to Firaxis' Jake Solomon before the announcement and learned some details about gameplay, although it doesn't appear that any of them actually saw it in action. All of them emphasize that the game will not be a mere Marvel-themed XCOM clone, but a proper tactical RPG with character creation, dialogue and third person exploration between missions.
