Greetings, friends!

We have finally reached a major milestone for our game: Swordhaven has been released into Early Access.

Of course, the game is not yet fully developed content-wise, and some mechanics that are already in place may require further refinement. But thanks to Early Access, we can communicate with you directly and consider your ideas and suggestions as we progress, truly designing Swordhaven in the way our players envision it.

This, however, is only possible if we receive feedback. Please feel free to contact us in any way you see fit to share your opinions. We will evaluate your feedback and implement it into the game before our full release.

So, what comes now?

First and foremost, we're planning updates to the game, with major ones hitting roughly once every couple of months. We will provide you with all the necessary information to keep you in the loop about what's been implemented and what the next big addition is.

One area we will focus on is the Real-Time with Pause battle mode, which is currently available for testing in the game. Swordhaven already provides a variety of settings for the AI, including the option to turn it off completely, and we will continue to make improvements in this regard. Animations are also a priority; we already have a lot, but there's much more to come!

Compatibility, optimization, and bug fixing are also top priorities for us. We're doing everything we can to test the game on all available devices, but a small team cannot cover every configuration out there.
If you encounter a bug (such as launch problems, graphics issues, or freezing), please send us a report at support@atomrpg.com. Our new Bug Tracker feature will help us track your problem, and you can check the resolution status at any time.

Thank you very much for being with us, and let's hope for a smooth ride towards the biggest milestone yet: the full release!

Hey, not part of Atom Team, but can they use this as a box quote? I think it could really gain some traction.

Slavs can squat pretty low but worse than BG is a very low bar.

Bought the game both on GoG and Steam to show support for based slavs. Char generation has male and female and traditional descriptions for what their roles in society are.

Good luck gents.

Atomboy are more backgrounds planned (the old guy has a Scholastic background) and will we be able to choose more than 1 background trait for bigger bonuses/maluses?
Also, will there be perk points for non combat use, like Atom and Trudograd had?

Yup, we'll add at the very least 2 more backgrounds. One of the stretch goals is a thing where you go meet cool secret masters of skills and learn skills from them, some of these will have use out of combat most probably! Traits are also not yet finalized, waiting for that feedback.

I'm pretty pumped for this one, but I will hold out for full release. What I saw in the demo was very encouraging. I expect great things. I wish you guys the greatest success!

Demo was bang-on in atmosphere, visual flair, quests and dialogue but the combat felt a few steps down from ATOM.

Would be tragically ironic on multiple levels if they aped their spiritual descendent Interplay/Troika's in the Fallout -> Arcanum trajectory (both in switching from sci-fi to fantasy and ruining the crunchy turn-based combat by shoe-horning in optional RTwP in the name of market appeal).

Learn from history lads.. pick RTwP combat (hopefully not but I can understand as a love letter to the Infinity Engine games) or pick turn-based combat (what you guys are good at and BG3 has shown the commercial viability of). You always get an ugly compromise trying to run the two systems simultaneously.

The more recent history is Owlcat's Pathfinder RPGs supporting dual RTwP/turn-based, though. :M

Backed the game actually and was not dis-pointed after playing the demo, game is still bare bones when it comes to backgrounds, perks and choices, do you plan to add options for some pacifist play though? so far I tried one char - negotiator with zero combat skills but ended up with 1/3 of Experience my combat char got or got eaten by fauna and there was no option to persuade to hire some more bodyguards in village unless they were well hidden.

Anyways will pick it on one year time in future when its will be ready well done so far and congratulations for Devs.

I mean, they very clearly made the games with RTwP in mind, TB was added later by a mod, which was then adapted by Owlcat. They didn't spend any significant resources on creating TB mode, it was an afterthought.

Combat in Pathfinders has massive problems, but in this case I don't think supporting both modes made any difference, since all these problems existed already when the game first shipped as a pure RTwP.

That being said, I also don't think Arcanum was affected much by having 2 combat modes too, it's my top 1 RPG, but majority of the game is half-baked, not only combat. I don't think removing RtWP completely and spending the time/money that went into it on TB, would be enough to magically fix any of the TB combat issues, and vice versa.

Other than these and PoE2 which added TB years after release, I can't think of any major RPGs with mixed combat systems, so it's hard to make a judgement on whether having 2 modes makes the game worse or not. Common sense says that focusing on 1 thing should result in higher quality of that thing, but then again it doesn't really work for other systems that way - for example removing the possibility of stealth or pacifist playthroughs in RPGs, and focusing purely on unavoidable combat oriented gameplay, is regarded as a bad thing here.

I could see a mixed combat system making a game better, if crafted well and with specific goals in mind, offering more replayability if balance of both modes is much different and requires much different builds and approach (POE2 actually ended up being like that), or instead having both modes available in a single playthrough like Pathfinders/Arcanum, but creating the encounters and character systems around it, allowing for a mix of difficult tactical setpiece encounters with tougher enemies, and power fantasy of quickly tearing through an army of grunts during the same playthrough at different points.

I tried both TB and RTwP in the demo. It works well either way because they have an AP system. These guys get it. It's going to be good.

I get a "no licences" error when I try boot up the demo but from memory there was only one attack type (no fast/regular/power option).

Lacking ZOC, the only use of your excess action points (outside of healing items) is to run away from the enemy and try deplete some of their AP in coming towards you on their turn. That can be useful for enemies who would normally get two attacks at full AP but always feels quite silly when turn-based games do this attack then run away thing. Like two children having a play fight with brooms.

AtomTeam have their heads screwed on so hopefully they'll steer the turn-based combat to a more Age of Decadence/BG3 style.
