<A href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/">Computer and Video Games</a> offers up a <A href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/r/?page=http://www.computerandvideogames.com/news/news_story.php(que)id=92023">mini-interview</a> with <A href="http://www.troikagames.com">Troika</a>'s <b>Leon Boyarsky</b> about <i>Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines</i>. Here's a bit on the <i>shooterness</i> of the title:
<br>
<br>
<blockquote><b>Bloodlines combines RPG with first-person action. How are you balancing both these elements?
<br>
<br>
Boyarsky:</b> We're taking what is a first-class shooter engine and marrying it with what we hope you'll agree is a first-class RPG experience. As opposed to watering down either of them, we've tried to keep both intact as much as possible.
<br>
<br>
That doesn't mean you have to play the game as a first-person shooter, but if you choose to do so then you can get that kind of effect when you're in combat.</blockquote>
<br>
<br>
Sounds <i>scary</i>. What if I don't want to shoot anything at all, is that option there as well?

Well, its looks like Leon is playing politician now. Trying to keep all possible voters happy and not really answering anything.

Can you do that in DnD? I think these Pen and Paper systems are combat systems right?

But of course, hopefully you'll have that option.

It all depends on the DM, silly. If he writes a module without combat, there will be no combat. If he writes a module with combat, there will be combat. A godly DM will write a module that provides for most any option the players can come up with, but most DMs simply key themselves to their group ad write accordingly. My pack of idiots, for example, consistently bungles every single non-combat encounter I give them. So, lots of critters for them.
