Here's a bit on the combat:

I'm not sure it's the combat equations that made <A href="Http://www.divinedivinity.com">Divine Divinity</a> a <i>hack fest</i>. I'd say it had more to do with the hordes of monsters everywhere.

I surely do hope they imrpove that as beause of it I had to stop playing the game despite enjoying other aspects of it.

Yeah that was my biggest problem and, like Volourn, made me quit playing. It just felt like a game that had potential that was realized too sporadically for it to be truly enjoyable. I never know whether to recommend it or not as a result.

All the blasted combat is why I quit playing as well. I enjoyed most of the quests and things, and the humor, but I really got sick of the combat and the fact you couldn't turn a corner anywhere without running in to it.

Saying that DD has hordes of monsters is an insult to those comparatively scarcely populated rpgs that have previously been said to have hordes of monsters.
The southwest part of the final desert area was the worst. An entire area populated as densely as the orc camp...

In an ideal world the developers would have been given all the time and resources they need to take the (sometimes coconut sized) seeds of greatness in DD and cultivate them into a masterpiece. In an ideal world.
Too bad we live in a world where they instead are stuck with a publisher that for instance forces a name-change to "Divine Divinity"...
