There's an update on the progress of Nuvie, the open sourced engine for Ultima IV. Looks like they aren't dead, and still updating:

There has been a lot of work done since our last progress report. Here's a short list of the noteworthy developments.

It is now possible to load both Martian Dreams and Savage Empire. (If a working copy of Ultima 6 is present) We've still got along way to go on these games but it is now possible to walk around a bit. :)

Pathfinding has been added. Actors now pathfind between their different scheduled positions.

Party members now follow the avatar.

You can now use the drawbridge to leave LB's castle. (U6)

Numerous usecode actions have been implemented for U6.

Several Worktypes have been implemented in U6. Sleep, wander, play lute, beg.

Actors now twitch.

Implemented object weights.

Levers switch portcullises. Switches switch electric fields. (U6)

Actors can join and leave the party.

We've made good progress decoding the U6 objlist file structure. There are still several unknown chunks left to decode. We've listed most worktype codes contained in the schedule file. Some temp worktypes are still unknown especially worktypes related to monsters and temp npcs. Feel free to chip in if you've discovered any new info on any of the U6 data files.
