TheLostOne, who indicated he's probably not gonna be regular-news-poster-material, handed me the following post amidsts this entire "so, new newsies maybe?" inferno:
Geoff Holland at AceGamez has written a pretty long preview of Sacred 2: Fallen Angel. You can find it here.

He spends a lot of time talking about teh amazing graphix, but there are some interesting tidbits thrown in.

Adding real depth to the setting, there’s an individual storyline to follow for each of the six character classes, some of which can be played in both campaigns from two different perspectives.
and
The stories and quests for the different characters, which have been constructed by a team of professional writers, will intersect at various points as you progress, and the tally of the main quests, side quests and character-specific quests is over 650 in total (and counting!)
Sounds promising if there’s some quality to go with all that quantity. On the other hand,
The story revolves around T energy, which has been harnessed by the High Elves – however, they have abused it and now it’s infecting the land, mutating the native wildlife and bringing chaos to the realm.
Ugh. And my favorite part,
Ascaron’s commitment to creating an expansive and open-ended gaming experience is impressive to say the least, even more so for an action RPG, with the potential to rival or even excel the mighty Oblivion.
Oh my!

Despite the previewer’s questionable taste, I’m looking forward to finding out more about this game. While Sacred was a bit unpolished, it had an undeniable charm, and I’m hoping to see the creators’ vision realized more fully this time around.

And the microphone goes back to Calis: Remember, kids, if you find cool stuff online, we have a General RPG forum where you can post and discuss stuff even if you're not a newsposter! Who knows, maybe one of us almighty people with news script access will post it on the frontpage and mention you (yes, you) for great justice and eternal glory! Also, I generally make a point not to read anything on a site that has "gamezzzzz" in the domain name, but this guy's writing actually looks decent. Even if I just skimmed over it.

If Sacred 2 has hordes and hordes of countless combat every 10 feet you explore, im gonna pass. It was unplayable for me for that reason.

I liked the first Sacred as a good Diablo Clone with a big world, nothing more, nothing less. I hope the devs don't want to make it "BEST GAEM EVAR" by adding shit like quest compasses or stuff like that but rather stay with what made Sacred good and improve on it.

"The mighty Oblivion"? No wai!

Back your claims up. Why did Sacred 1 suck?

I'm still looking forward to this game, in all honesty. Why? Because I enjoyed the first, as it was enjoyable. Which is repetitive, but it bears repeating all the same.

Anyway, I wanna see the game, as some of the elements look like a combination of tech and fantasy, and I'm always a fan of that.

Playing a dwarf in Sacred Gold was, literally, a blast. After all the patches the game eventually became balanced.

Boring as hell.
Seconded. Walking through an area to clean it out, only to turn around to go back the way you've just come and find all the monsters have respawned... OMG no. Just... no.

Actually Sacred had a quest compass long before Oblivion. ;)

I'll definetely pick this one up when it's out. Sacred was one of the finest Diablo clones out there, and the sequel looks great thus far. And there will be two paths in the game! C'mon guys, it's the first Action/RPG (if we don't count Bloodlines) to feature choices and consequences, so you all should be pissing your pants.

I haven't seen any mention of C&C.

Two different campaigns, not two paths. At least that's the impression I've gotten.

Still, I'm hoping for a fun romp.

Dude, not really true. Sacred had the most intelligent auto leveling system I can think of. Random encounters scaled their hostility to the level of the player.

So the wolf pack attacks you on your first visit, but totally ignores you if you come back having gained 5 more levels of experience, because the wolves are afraid of YOU now.

Makes sense to me.

BTW: Sacred gave me a blast playing - I could live without the plot stopping bugs, though.

True. But another thing I liked is that you could avoid 80% of the fighting if you wanted to - the riding/running speed was set appropriately, even for a dwarf who couldn't ride horses. You could just concentrate on the quests and interesting areas, and since the scaling system was well-done, the whole thing didn't get imbalanced.

Yeah, almost forgot that.
But it wasn't completely retarded and didn't point you to every dungeon in the whole game, maybe that's why I forgot about it... less negative influence on the gameplay than in Oblivion, much rather it was even a bit helpful. And less intrusive, I never had the feeling of the pointer saying "LOOK THERE, YOU MUST FOLLOW ME!", but I occasionally checked it out when I wanted to go back to the main quest.

Adding real depth to the setting, there’s an individual storyline to follow for each of the six character classes, some of which can be played in both campaigns from two different perspectives.

this looks like that trick which was used in Secret of Mana 2. maybe will try the game only because of this.
sacred1 sucked though.

Sacred 1 was amongst the most boring Diablo clones I've played and I don't expect the 2nd one to be any better.
Ascaron’s commitment to creating an expansive and open-ended gaming experience is impressive to say the least, even more so for an action RPG, with the potential to rival or even excel the mighty Oblivion.

It doesn't take much for a Diablo clone to be better than Oblivion.
