GameSpot has posted a quick interview with Johnny Chey about the sequel to Freedom Force. Even has a bit of concept art of the new things in the game. Here's a taste:

GameSpot: We understand that Freedom Force 2 will be "an ongoing story." Can we expect to see all our old favorite superheroes from the original game? Will the sequel, in fact, move over to a different style and era of comics as preliminary talks about the games suggested? For instance, can we expect to see darker, more-brooding 1970s-comics versions of the heroes of Freedom Force rather than the upbeat Silver Age versions from the original game?

Jonathan Chey: Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich features all the original characters from Freedom Force. Time has moved on, but it's not the '70s yet in the Freedom Force universe. Instead, we're a few years on from the events of the first game and are still dealing with some of the fallout from those happenings.

We'll also be going back in time, so you can expect to see some radically new Golden Age characters making an appearance, as well as some brand-new Silver Age ones.

Have fun trying to sell this in Germany, Irrational!

Something tells me the title is gonna make the game sell well at Wal-Marts.

ANYWAYS, I liked the first Freedom Force, it wasnt a good RPG, hell, it was more of a strategy game than an RPG. But it was fun, though.

I kind of hope they do go a little more open ended with this one rather than the mission structured game the last one had. I doubt it though, because of the storyline.

Well, i really enjoyed the first one, but I hope that the second one will be mor "darker" mood, the cheesy story was fun, but a little too much.

I hope that they at least include branching scenarios so you have to choose between which hero to recruit (while the other becomes inaccessible to you should you not take his mission) and have hero earn certain powerups gained from the missions themselves rather than through the levelup phase.

It'd also be nice to have some freedom at selecting which missions to take in no particular order - much like the way Freedom Fighters does it. I.e. take out the helipad and you don't have to worry about helicopters on other maps. Take out the military camp and you don't have to worry about Humvee reinforcements.

Well, the Freedom Force in the first game kind of had to adopt a defensive stance. They could only really react to the actions of enemy villains. In this one, however, Freedom Force appears to be going on the offensive versus the Third Reich, so maybe we'll get gameplay more like what Rex talked about.
