GameZone has reviewed the first expansion pack to Neverwinter Nights, Shadows of Undrentide. It scores a hefty 8.5/10 rating, mentions a few quirks with multiplayer, a bit of this and that, and this on the storyline:

The students rush in, dispatching the remaining kobolds. A stranger appears, aiding the cause and then tending to the wounds of Drogan. Ayala is also a Harper, and she has been tracking this particular band of kobolds for several days. But more than just an attack upon the dwarven mage, the kobolds had something far more sinister in mind. They have stolen four artifacts entrusted to the care of Drogan; four artifacts of immense power that the Harpers thought were safely hidden away.

Fear the terrifying, low CR kobolds.

Is that supposed to be a joke? Kobolds? Aren't they the laughing stock/cannon fodder of the Monster Manual? I now have newfound respect for the Bugbear, after playing TOEE (watching them cleave my wizard), but Kobolds? Why not the Githyanki? I'd also like to see a new strain of high INT and buffed gargoyles.......that would be refreshing.

Why always four? Does Bioware have some odd obsession with this number?
If they're going to stick with the "retrieve x items for us" thing they could at least change the amount on occasion. Or is the number four hard coded into the engine?

Some of those kobolds were pretty buffed with class levels though.

Plus...
I don't know if anyone remembers it, there was a long ago editorial in Dragon (170 something I believe. ~10-12 years ago) about the malicious use of kobolds in a campaign. Brutal evil kobolds with clever traps, ambushes, excessive use of oil (slippery and extra flamey), hit and run tactics and just overwhelming numbers. Entertaining article, and it was clear that the party involved prefered dealing with demons and the like than the nasty, vicious common kobold.

I see none of you D&D geeks have ever played Dragon Mountain. 'Tis a shame.

Kobold comandos in BG1 were downright nasty. Plus, kobolds can have class levels just as anybody else.

The thing that bothers me the most is the fact that Drogan, a dwarf, succumbed to the poison so easily.

Ah yes, the joys of party members dropping dead during the first BG mission.

Those little buggers rolled a lot of 20s.

Well, considering I was still level one when I got to the mines- I foolishly followed the story and went right there after meeting J/K, (after reloading repeatedly and finally killing the assassin at the friendly arms inn ), they were killing most of my characters in one or two shots.

That game was all over the map, balance wise- some things were way too hard for when you met them, some absurdly easy...
