Here, truly is some epic fail. <a href="http://www.brainygamer.com/the_brainy_gamer/2008/10/fallout-3.html">The Brainy Gamer sat a few students down with the original Fallout's to see how they went</a>. It's all part of their question on whether Fallout 3 is really going to be "Fallout" or not. Here's one students' attempt:
<br>
<blockquote>i have enough to fire a gun and kill a scorpion, but then i'm only 1 action point short to use a weapon and i get screwed because i can't fight back...how do i gain more action points and why do they randomly go away when i'm fighting?</blockquote>
<br>
Yes, why do action points "randomly go away"? Mayhap it is because one is using them? Pressing on...
<br>
<blockquote>All of these students have seen the trailers for Fallout 3. When I told them we would play the game immediately after release, they burst into spontaneous fits of delight. I should mention that I made this announcement at the conclusion of our Planetfall discussion, a text adventure they gamely tried to enjoy because I told them they should - but which they mostly detested. In this setting, Fallout 3 was received like mana from RPG heaven. Subsequently, Fallout 1 and 2 were seen as trials to be endured while awaiting the modern gameplay savior of 3.
<br>
<br>
Then, during the break, something broke. I began to notice increased activity in the discussion forum, which soon turned into a small flurry of posts.</blockquote>
<br>
<a href="http://www.brainygamer.com/the_brainy_gamer/2008/10/fallout-3.html">I'll let you read the rest to find out the results</a>...
<br>
<br>
In other news, <a href="http://www.gamingindians.com/2008/10/fallout-3-controversy-india-release-cancelled/">Microsoft has cancelled Fallout 3's release</a>. In India that is. Apparently citing "cultural sensitivities".

Wow!

I'm just trying to imagine being told to play Fallout for credits.

Does the game have bugs that in rare instances cause more APs to be used than are being reported to the player? I know that this has happened in JA2 1.13 (but then, people have been tinkering with the source code for the last couple of years...)

Oh the humanity! The humanity! My big gun is out of bullets!

EDIT: This guy is a Codex hero. Look what he managed to do:

And so we met again this morning. After a long and productive conversation I asked them how they were feeling about Fallout 3. "They're totally gonna screw up that game," said one student. "They're gonna say shoot this guy in the eyeball, like they're giving you all these choices, but you know they're gonna make it run and gun. You're gonna be running around blowing stuff up, and all the shooter players are gonna love it. But it won't be Fallout. I promise you. It won't be Fallout." "It looks pretty amazing," observed another, "and it should be fun. But yeah, it probably won't be Fallout."
At least it's a step.

Holy fuck, someone give this guy a medal. He's SO awesome. Fuck, we need to make an army of his clones and unleash it on the ESF.

I really don't get it. After seeing all the embarrassing actual gameplay videos it played like a really, really shitty shooter. And I mean shitty, even comparing to 90's shooters (mainly because of AI).
Are standards for "FPS"s on xboy so low?

I'm familiar with it, that was a rhetorical question. :P

(Anyway, to be honest, there are probably much better shooters out there by now. But NOT Fall Out 3)

It's amazing that people recognize the merits of Fallout as a very creative setting but don't recognize the method, that come from the core PnP role-playing that was responsible to unleash that creativity while the games industry fights with lack of it.

Also having to read a manual to play a game is now considered inaccessible.

I think that's probably the main reason. The cow is seen as holy in India.

There's also the whole thing about a nuclear holocaust that the Indians get a bit jittery over.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Why can't more teachers be like this? Seriously, there need to be obligatory gaming lessons so the kids of nowadays can see the wonders of *real* RPGs without being discouraged by their peers who say "LOL U R FAG PLAYIGN A GAEM WITH SHIT GRAFFIX LOL"

Both of those things may have contributed to the decision to pull the game, but the main reason is likely because Brahmin are a revered caste of priests in India. Calling an animal, sacred or not, by the same name probably twisted some panties.
