GameSpot: We understand that in Dragon Age: Origins, no matter which origin you choose, be it noble human or elf mage, you are a Grey Warden, enlisted by the king himself to battle the forces of evil. Of the Grey Wardens, Duncan is a master and Alistair is a guide. Tell us how these two will mentor your character in Dragon Age.

Dan Tudge: As a Grey Warden, Duncan is charged with defeating the blight and must recruit the bravest warriors, mages, and rogues into the ranks of the Grey Wardens in order to defeat this blight. How you meet him and how he recruits you is actually different in each origin story.

Duncan introduces you to another young Grey Warden recruit named Alistair. Alistair is both charming and easygoing and never seems to be short of amusing commentary. I think players will enjoy having him in their parties.

GS: As we know, moral choices factor heavily into the gameplay. How will your choices affect the characters around you? To what extent will they go to push their own agendas on you, especially if they disagree with your actions? Aside from chiding you or romancing you, will we see characters leaving your ranks in disgust? Starting fights with other characters or with your own character? Betraying you for another side?

DT: Party interaction is one of the best parts of Dragon Age: Origins, much like it was in Baldur's Gate. The party approval system is something new we're introducing in Dragon Age: Origins, and it influences how your party members react to your decisions and behave towards you. Each character has their own personal motivations and moral code, so if you do things they don't like, they could leave your party, or even turn on you. On the other hand, if you gain favor with them, you could get special bonuses or certain other perks, which you'll discover.

Looks like they've taken some pointers from Obsidian. We'll see.

Huh? That's been around well before Obsidian existed.

Yeah. It seems like they're just going back to what they did with BG2, and to a much lesser extent BG1. I just hope they actually do some interesting stuff with it. I'd like to see a game with the party interactivity of BG2 again, especially in terms of inter-party conflicts.

And, they've done it to various extents with KOTOR, SOU, HOTU, JE, and ME. This has been BIO's 'thing' since they started making CRPGs.

It's gonna suck. When they start saying "much like it was in Baldur's Gate", you know what you're in for.

Choices and Consequences™: BioWare shows how it's done.

Here instead of playing an RPG.
I will enjoy it if party members have a lot of conflict potential and get angry and leave or turn on me or other party members, and my moral choices end up shaping the kind of group that will collect around my character. And I like the idea of some kind of perk for high allegiance - I hope they aren't too powerful, but it will be good to have an in-game translation of someone being very highly dedicated to the group.

Which makes idea of origins mostly pointless. Not that i am saying DA will suck balls, but right from the beginning it's main idea is already broken.

Sounds like another bad (imho) influence meter ala Obsidian. I just hope they make it more complex and less sucky.

You wanted to say "influence" meter. Because in Bioware case and to a lesser extent - Obsidian's - it just shows how good you are at kissing characters' asses without really influencing them (f.e. Kaelyn will never abandon her quest even if you maxed out your "influence" - still in KotOR2 influence determined what pass will a character take (to become a jedi/sith etc) and in NWN2 OC it determined whether characters will betray you or not in the end. But eh in Bioware games it only determined whether you will romance another schoolgirl further or not.

While I dislike the idea of being forced into the Wardens, this doesn't make the Origins broken.

"I was referring to the Influence system."

Sorry, despite the 'fancy' name, the Influence system ha sbeen around for along while espicially in terms of the BIO/BIS games. Way back in BG2 you could influence npc's alignment, and other crap. This even occured in PST to a point which was BEFORE BG2. So, no, the influence system is NOT new.

BIO games haven't really had a numerical number to determine influence. It wa sbasically decided by actions, and while sucking up is involved it was nowhere near as bad as KOTOR2 or NWN2.

Lol. Claiming Bio are following Obsidian's trails when in fact Obsidian made their reputation by picking up Bioware leftovers and pushing their pseudo-Biowarian pedigree.

Obsidian = Bioware's in-house dev

I still remember being told by a moderator in Obsidian forums to change my sign because it said "Obsidian Entertainment, a division of BioWare Corp" (or something to that effect).

Feral Kid, you just failed your sarcasm skill check so badly that I can only presume the dice fell off the table and through a complex series of unfortunate events managed to anally roger both you and your mom whilst simultaneously pouring sugar into your car's fuel-tank.

And the dice doesn't feel good at all. Makes me miss your drooling tongue that was in its place before.
