Guess you could look into mosaic making since it's basically the same principle of creating an image by 'dotting' chunks of color together. Is there any kind of learning process?
This was recommended to me by someone who knows what they're talking about. It's very comprehensive and gets straight to the point. How long does it take to get to such mastering of Pixel Art? Is there any kind of learning process? What are the thing to take in consideration when drawing Pixel art (e.g. lighting sources)?

Damn, well spotted. After a closer look, it's a compression issue, I reckon. I chased up the source and the first piece was apparently pixelled at 300x300. Which kinda backs up the formatting theory, right? To be fair, I suppose you wouldn't notice a problem at the intended dimension. Again, well spotted! The first to are interesting because they don't use solid colors for their "pixels". I wonder if that is a deliberate artistic choice or just a consequence of converting higher bit depth source art to 255 color .gif animations. In the first case it seems to be some kind of naive error diffusion which IMO doesn't work out too great - at first glance it looks like smudge from an overly aggressive lossy compression format and after a closer look you start noticing distracting patterns that move around between animation frames. The second one uses regular stipple patterns which look more pleasing to me.
