There's a review of Knights of the Old Republic over at Game Chronicles, who liked it enough to give it a 9.8/10 rating. The go on and on about how great BioWare ported the game to the PC, how wonderful the puzzles were, and so forth. Hell, they even thought the combat was fantastic:

Each time you encounter an enemy the game pauses (this is an option toggle) and you can dictate the actions of your party. You can preload a series of four moves for each character or simply select targets for each member and let them do their default attack. You can also setup AI scripts for the two party members you aren’t controlling. This allows you to have members who will prioritize their attacks with grenades, Force Powers, or rush into standard melee.

It’s all turn-based and all the results are determined by the roll of unseen dice combined with modifiers based on your stats, skills, and any items or equipment you have equipped. The combat will actually play itself out if you leave it alone but by fine-tuning the combat you can be a devastating force of nature.

Remember the old addage that if you tell a lie often enough, it becomes true?

Here's a clue for the clueless. The game wouldn't need to auto-pause if it were turn based.

I sure wish my games of chess would do that. Then it'd be *really* fun.

The only reason you're better if you do it manually is because the AI is pretty damned stupid in KotOR. I could have someone all nice and stunned with force choke or something similar, but that won't stop Jolee from whirlwinding them instead of doing something smart and NOT wasting his mana.

No need for any of that in KOTOR. It's a really easy game to beat because Force Wave is so damn overpowered. Just continually spam that and you can't lose.
