Graphical roguelike Mines of Morgoth has made it to v1.0 after seven long years. You can download the 3 level demo or buy the full version for 19 Euros ($24 US). I somehow get the feeling there won't be many takers on that last part.

Do anyone actually pay for a game like that? Maybe if it has C&C in it? hehe.

The webdesigner should be sent back in time to the 80s when that page would not be grounds of stoning in public.

Well, one guy DID do everything on this from the site to the game itself, and nobody has tried to "evolve" Moria since Angband many a year ago. That said he used to have a site section explaining his rationale behind things a bit more as well as some history on Moria but for some reason removed the whole section from his site some months back. I'm hoping he sees the wisdom in restoring that, or something like it, as well as a FAQ and such to cover all the usual bases.

I'm having some issues with gettting the demo to run, but providing all gets up and running I suspect I'll throw down for a fullgame purchase.

End of the day $25 is still less than Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa, the only comparable retail PC reference point(though to be fair it has tremendous potential added value with the inclusion of the powerful game editor that comes with it), as well as any DS Roguelike fare out there. RogueTouch on the iPhone is much cheaper, but hey, that's the iPhone environment for ya.

  • The minimum requirements :

Windows 98, 2000, XP or Vista
    DirectX 7.0 or above
    800Mhz processor, 512 Megs Ram
    Any 64 Megs graphics card
    Sound card
    Mouse and keyboard
I dunno, those system requirements are pretty steep. I mean mouse and keyboard?

Does Vista have a minimum RAM requirement? If so, that might be the culprit on the memory issue since the game is supposed to be fit and able to work in it as well.

Or is there something with VB where it likes RAM eating in general?

Roguelikes can have some notoriously complex/buggy programming in them despite the primitive graphics. See Dwarf Fortress for a perfect example. High reqs don't surprise me at all.

512 meg RAM requirement doesn't mean that it uses 512 megs of RAM, or anywhere near that.

Heh, we still haven't seen Codex feedback on Lost Legends have we? :(

There's a v1.01 being worked on in the background as we speak. Got in contact with the dev so hopefully a solution to my crashing issue where I can't get past clicking start after naming and rolling (love the dice roll sound somehow) will be resolved shortly. If anybody else is having woes with the demo or full version be sure and contact the dev at his email address as he seems to be on the ball about wanting to fix things that crop up.

I'll be trying it out tonight. Will post impressions unless someone else gets to it first.

Party based or single character? Too lazy to go to the website.

Looks more than decent enough if theres actually a good game waiting behind those small tiles. Looks fine and clean to me, someone should review it. Nevermind I dont have time for this shit.

Single character I believe. Only party based Roguelike I know of on the horizon, though technically around in somewhat playable Alpha currently, is Peleron's Brilliant Rebirth.

Wait, S.C.O.U.R.G.E. is as well I think...

Warp Rogue allowed for a party iirc.

Check real quick and indeed you are right. I also didn't realize it had updated again as recently as this past February.

Based on the gameplay demo video, it looks like there'll be plenty of different ways to roll and build your character towards.

50$ says the guy gets shut down for using Morgoth in the title by some jackassnoble hero.

Just tried it out, seems crappy. Can only play as a mage as far as I can tell, and the only choices you make while levelling are what spells to learn. It lags a lot (Well, for a roguelike) at really trivial things like going up/down stairs or accessing inventory too. Worst of all, it seems like he basically copied ToME's stealth/perception/disarming/casting system, only without the part where you actually get to focus on anything. Backstabbing seems insanely overpowered, I was doing 6-7 times normal damage on sleeping enemies. Also, despite having a graphics set, there's no mouse interface in the actual game. Even Slash'em has that.
