For those looking for yet another indie CRPG, Omega Syndrome has just been released. What is it? Well, here's a bit from the site for those itching for more details on it before they decide to try the demo, which only weighs in at 3.3MB:

THE OMEGA SYNDROME is a new type of computer game. Inspired by Steve Jackson's Fighting Fantasy series of books and classic computer role playing games of the past, it is part book part computer role playing game. Some decisions are made using text based options while others are made in combat. As Max completes quests and defeats his enemies he will gain experience and improve his skills.

Combat in THE OMEGA SYNDROME is in real time. However the game can be paused at any time while you decide what to do next. There are a variety of weapons (including knives, bats, iron bars, pistols, rifles, and automatic weapons) that Max can use and he can choose to specialise in one or several combat disciplines.

Features beautiful pre-rendered environments in 16-bit colour, real time combat, a large array of weapons, items and creatures and an engrossing storyline.

THE OMEGA SYNDROME is from Australian Game Developers. $15.95. Requires 800x600 screen resolution, 16 MB RAM, 50 MB hard drive space, Windows 95/98/2000/XP.

Someone didn't get the memo that all shareware CRPGs are supposed to be turn based.

Just finished the demo. The game has a lot of similarity to the original Fallout. (Of course, the graphics isn't really as good. The lack of any display of armor worn is disappointing along with the lack of cool death animations.) So far so good, but the demo (which contains only the turtorial level) says little about the storyline and so on. Hope someone who actually gets the game will comment on this.

BTW, any Fallout-like games out there? The only three I know are Wasteland and Fallout 1+2 ?(not including Arcanum, which has 50% fantasy element...). Any recommendation would be appreciated. Thanks!

Fallout-like? You mean post-apocalyptic? Try Fountain of Dreams, Burntime, BadBlood, Visions of The Aftermath: Boomtown (altough it`s more survival-RPG) and Perihelion(you will need amiga emu for this)..I found expecialy Perihelion and Burntime to be excelent titles.

It would have been much better as TB. The pause/real-time sucks and there is no feedback that I performed the combat correctly. I ended up watching as my guy was haplessly chewed up by the dog. The graphics are reminiscent of favorite old-school games.
