After <a href="http://www.duckandcover.net" target="blank">Duck and Cover</a> posted a news item about some new screenshots from the upcoming CRPG <a href=http://www.the-fall.com>The Fall</a> from <a href=http://www.silver-style.com>Silver Style</a>, <b>Carsten Strehse</b> dropped into the <a href=http://www.duckandcover.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7573>comments thread</a> to answer some questions and evade others.

Don't think that this would be a good idea. A user interface should be used by the user and if it's too small the user can't use it. Used... eh... Got me?</blockquote>

We all know how much a huge interface helped <a href=http://lionheart.blackisle.com>Lionheart</a>! Head on over to <a href=http://www.duckandcover.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7573>the thread</a> for more fun.

you would appear to be correct sir. I alluded to the size by comparing it to Arcanum's interface but those words were posted by CB.

What's wrong with it?

Let's see...
* it's real time with pause because the developer wants to implore to the mass market rather than make a good game
* it's unoriginal, blatantly ripping off every single aspect of the Mad Max and Fallout world.
* the storyline is nonsensical. Read Killzig's replies for an explanation
* none of the other games that Silver Style has made has ever been remotely enjoyable.
* the developers are talentless hacks.
* The Fall is trying to ride on the success of the Fallout series by presenting itself as the replacement to fill in the niche left by Fallout 3's cancellation.

you forgot:

* The developer comes across as a fucking jackass, removing any possible interest from his game wherever he treads

Behind you.
Well, I'm not willing to go out and declare The Fall an awful game just yet. This really would depend on whether or not Silver Style is capable of learning from it's mistakes. Judging by that thread, though, they haven't.

Just look at his responses to Killzig pertaining to the GUI and trade interface. He's unwilling to change anything even though every single person in that thread has mentioned how godawful the GUI looks at the moment. His argument towards the GUI problem is that if he were to pose a question, 10 out of 10 different people would answer differently, completely ignoring the fact that the '10 out of 10' people who posted on that thread (for example anyway. I'm too lazy to count how many people actually posted on that thread) think the interface is lousy and needs to be changed.

From his reaction, one can safely extrapolate that he believes himself to be possessing of opinions superior to those of anyone else's and as such, I doubt he is willing to learn from his past mistakes which others have so graciously made him aware of.

heh, programmers have a difficult time understanding (and accepting) their babies suck ass, thats why you use ppl outside the project to test them, if he is smart he will take those opinions.

I'm still probably going to buy The Fall because I'm a post-apoc sucker. And the interface doesn't look too awful to me, it kind of reminds me of the JA2 interface.

While some of the initial screenshots looked neat, Strehse's attitude in that thread sickens me. I'll be holding onto my money -- it'd be better spent on a second copy of Silent Storm or something.
