GameSpot has gotten themselves an exclusive bonus pack for Legends of Aranna. Here's the blurb about it:

Try this new adventure for Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna. In it, you'll continue the Legend of Aranna story and be called upon to defend the village from an attack by the Hassat race of mutated great cats. You must repair the rift between the Hassat and the Humans, or die trying in this new level available exclusively for Windows XP users.

An OS dependent level pack? There's a first.

Good point. I almost forgot that MicroSoft publishes the Dungeon Siege games. Still though, why the hell would a map pack require a specific version of Windows? It's just plain odd.

Heh, that reminds be of Bill quite some time ago asking epson "do him a little favour" and not bring out os2 driver for their printers, then, when there was still fight for dominance against the technically superiour os2.
UPDATE: I really should have added a link from the start, as this is one of my favorite topics :) Well, of course there are numerous other sources, but this is just such a good summary...

I hear Dungeon Siege 2 won't have a CD key, but will require a XBox Serial Number to play...

Another reason not to play DS.
Did anyone need more reasons?

It's nice to see at least one game around here get bashed without any rabid and swift retaliation. "Blahblahblah DS is teh revolution of Diabloesque RPGs!"

The whole 'exclusive for XP users only' thing isn't true at all. I don't know if the Gamespot DLX downloader works on any other computer besides the XP but I'll wager that it probably does, because the same software is used for their non-XP downloads. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to download and install it if you're on a different OS.

Neither the game nor the installer prompt you for your cd-key, either.

Unfortunately, it isn't. The first one I'm aware of happened a month or so back, with an XP-specific patch and enhancement pack for Tron 2.0 (which [totally OT] is a great game, despite having an ending which is unadulterated trash).
