DIY Games have a very short review of Spiderweb's shareware CRPG Geneforge 2. They thought it was neat enought to earn 3.5 stars out of 4.

It’s also a very long game. There are 82 areas and much of the game involves walking back and forth from one to another until you have completed all the requisite quests. This is not a game that you will finish quickly; so on a bang per buck metric alone, Geneforge 2 is a deal.

This is old-school gaming at its finest, with simple graphics, basic commands and lots of text. The quests often boil down to FedEx or exterminator jobs (get this, kill that, kill them so I can get those, etc.) so there is a lot of running around. The classes are limited to three; there are mage, warrior and rogue variants of shapers. This choice affects your starting stats, but little else. By the end of the game, the initial choice of class means next to nothing.

So, hooray Jeff Vogel.

Yeah, I'm glad I never played this game. Sounds bad.

Behind you.
... Mage, warrior and rogue? Uhh.. What? More like Summoner, Warrior, and Mage - and all of them can develop rogue-ish skills if they want them.

Actually, choice of class continues to matter throughout the game given that it dictates skill costs.
