There's a preview of The Fall over at WorthPlaying. It's not very long, and there's a few screenshots, and here's a bit of it:

THE FALL comes up with an unique combat system. The traditional difficult spot of 3D-Role Playing Games, the often dull or repetitive combat is actually one of the main strengths of THE FALL. Battles are scalable so that the player can choose any level of involvement: Combat can be accelerated and automated by the players who are mainly interested in the story and the character development. Vice versa, the tactical player may make each and every combat decision himself. He can fight every battle as a challenging tactical game in itself which may be several hours long.

Combat so unique, it's never been seen since.. any Infinity Engine game or Freedom Force or any of the other Silver Style games or..

Choice is usually desirable but I have to wonder how good a feature or gameplay element is when the developers themselves are giving me options to nerf/simplify/ignore it. Surely a better method would be to make the combat so engaging that it becomes an integral part of my interaction with the game, and I don't have to stuff about with options to make it last longer, or play through automatically. Bad combat is bad combat, whether it lasts ten minutes or ten seconds.

Listening to fans and communities is all good and well, but seriously, do developers have any idea of the games they actually want to make and play, rather than trying to appeal to a cock-sucking fanbase? All the while we're inundated with nonsense stating that its "kinda like turn based, in fact its just as good," or dumb "TB games don't sell" rationalism.
