Because of the RPG decline a lot of codexers want to make their own games.
I wonder if the porn industry started to decline if a lot of codexers would start making their own porn.

If I entered the industry it would only be an incline of the highest order...and I mean INCLINE. :smug:

Ok then, we have Haba and commie, now we just need to undress them, thrown them on a prison cell and wait a week with a camera recording everything.
It will be our first porn movie on a truly codexian style.

EDIT: Blame the codex for not having enough women.

So basically your saying Azrael that Salvatore is shit and that there are much better writers out there they could have used. I think you just wasted a whole wall of text on making a point that could have been made in one sentence.

It's not just that Salvatore is shit - yes I think that, but it's far from the biggest problem. The problem is that you have guys throwing around cash that could buy any tv/film scriptwriter they wanted - a genre of writers far better suited for gaming, and one in which even the best simply aren't inclined to turn their noses up at a job - fuck, even Tom Stoppard takes workman jobs doing rewrites on shitty film scripts. Ief they had known Salvatore personally, had drinks one time and realised that he had an idea for a game that they really really loved, that would be a different thing altogether - it's the mismanagement of resources that matters, and the implication that the guys making the financial decisions don't have a fraction of even the commercial understanding of their industry that you would expect from a film exec or a tv exec.

I'm not expecting the suits to think like developers. And I'm fine with gaming execs trying to make money, just like book publishers, tv execs and film producers. But each of those groups - book publishers, tv+film execs - are expected to know their own industries so thoroughly that they can know in advance the age group, education level and gender split that will see the movie or read the book. Even if they think an area is too artwank to be worth pursuing at the moment, they're expected to know what will sell to the kinds of folks who like that genre, and how much money it would need to turn over before it's worth pursuing as a side-project. That's the thing I'm bitching about (yes, taking far too many words) - not that Salvatore is shit, but that for all the talk of the industry going too commercial and being competitive, they're in a massively under-competitive environment, disguised by their employee market being equally undercompetitive, hence allowing them to get away with crappy conditions because of developers who want to 'make games' rather than 'make software'. In a truly competitive industry, most of these publishers and developers would get swept into bankruptcy by companies who foster a relationship with their customers, focus on long-term fanbases and are run by execs who take their industry as seriously as a media baron takes newspapers or an oil exec studies the oil market.
