<A href="http://www.rpgdot.com/">RPGDot</a>'s <b>Dhruin</b> has done a <A href="http://www.rpgdot.com/index.php?hsaction=10053&ID=963">review</A> of <a href="http://www.riftrunner.com">Beyond Divinity</a>. Basically, it lacks a little polish, there's a few problems with the interface and what not, the battlefields are boring, but the gameplay is cool. Here's a clip:

<blockquote>Despite the lack of polish and some of the new ideas falling a little flat, Beyond Divinity succeeds overall because the basic gameplay works, coupled with a strong story and great interaction with the gameworld. The biggest hurdle to players enjoying Beyond Divinity is their expectation for Beyond Divinity to be Divine Divinity 2 and the tedious opening dungeon.</blockquote>

I think I would have been more inclined to get this game if it weren't party based, so it were more like <A href="http://www.divinedivinity.com">Divine Divinity</a>.

Thanks, <b>Dhurin</b>!

You know, when it comes to mindless hack and slash games with little to know roleplaying, I actually prefer the party. Call it the tactical combatant in me, but I think that helps make the game a bit better. Given you can still Fck that up like KotOR. But when it comes to combat micro-managed combat games, I normally like party. OTOH, I wish games like Fallout didn't even let you have pack mules... err I mean joinable NPC's.

While Dhurin would perhaps be a fine name for a dwarf, you might want to correct the typo in the last line of the news.

I wouldn't say Divine/Beyond Divinity is a mindless hack & slash game. There is lots of dialogue, decisions you can make, lots of puzzles to solve, secret places to find, etc.
