The Roots will take you for a journey through a fantasy world on the brink of a mighty conflict that could shatter the world itself. It is a story about a man’s struggle against the forces of destiny and ancient gods, where the world’s harmony is maintained by the mystical Trees of the Elements. However, an inexpressible evil slowly starts to destroy these magical Trees, leaving doubt as to the fate of the world.

The gameplay combines action and role-playing elements. We wanted to avoid commonly known and repetitive schemes and thus we sought for a few innovative solutions. One of them is the battle system. Every encounter or skirmish will take place in a specially designed arena where a turn-based game play is enriched with features that give additional control over each character in a party. That sort of fight gives a feel of real-time combating and will be a breath of fresh air to turn based RPGs.

Let me guess... it's super innovative real time combat with a pause button? The spacebar, mayhaps? Well, I pretty much lost interest right around the part where it says "console-inspired elements."

I'm not particularly fond of anime or mini-games but the combat system is genuinely turn-based (with console elements like an arena...but TB nevertheless). Next week's part has a (simple) step-by-step combat example.

I hate random encounters while walking down a hallway and separate little zones for battles. Have combat as part of the damn game not some distraction to waste time.

Sounds like a Final Fantasy clone to me.

What do you mean? Playing pong in Commander Keen 5 (or was it 6?) was great! I used to fire it up purely to play that.

I used to play it for the pogo stick, but each to their own.
