There's some new Fallout: New Vegas info to be gleaned from a GameStar preview, presented in English over at No Mutants Allowed.

- Vault 21 is an underground vault and lies under New Vegas.
- The NCR has lost contact to the west and is demoralized and underequipped due to the war with Caesar's Legion.
- Caesar's Legion dominates New Vegas.
- The NCR was fighting hard against the Brotherhood of Steel for Hoover Dam. The NCR has won this battle, barely.
- The NCR troops at McCarren Airport lost the contact to Hoover Dam as well.
- The main task of the courier has been to deliver a package to Primm. Then he got ambushed...
- The small and big weapons skills are merged into one weapon skill.
- Every weapon that made some asplozions before (like the rocket launcher or FatMan), are now in the skill category Explosives.
- Repcon, a former rocket factory, is supposedly inhabited by ghouls. As of late, explosions can be heard from there all the time.
- Craig Boon, one of the possible companions, will attack the player, if he sides with the Caesar's Legion.
- The orbital laser Archimedes 2 can only be used once a day.
- New monster: Cacadores, they look like bloatflies with shiny / colourful wings.
- Something like Bobbleheads will be in New Vegas as well and it will boost players stats. What it will be exactly isn't known yet.

Perhaps it could be like the chips in FO2

Sounds like that guy from Ausir's blog got his way. "Y du I haev to lern 2 skillz, Ah jest wanna shoot guhns"

- Every weapon that made some asplozions before (like the rocket launcher or FatMan), are now in the skill category Explosives.

...not sure if bad. Could make explosives skill more useful.

I can stomach this. 'Small' weapons was kind of vague, might as well just label them all ballistic weapons and put everything else in a special category.

Please, for the love of god just call them implants and make them installable by doctors for a sizable fee. Its not that hard to make this not silly. The bobbleheads really aren't that big of a bother to me, but why would you do something so stupid when it could be easily made to fit into the game?

This made me thing how boss it'd be if stuff like Dermal Armor had visuals.

Why not just drop skills completely, it would save much more effort for devs, and next-gen kiddies would be happy like never. After all being jack of all trades is so awesome and epic.

On second thought, I can always play the Wasteland mod for Dwarf Fortress, instead.
God damn!!! is this modification playable??
Yeah it's playable, and fun. You play as the Vault Dwellers (which fit right in with the whole dwarven "dig deep" concept ;) ). They have raider, mutant, wastelander, ghoul, etc., civilizations to contend with. Pretty fun stuff. You can make melee weapons like rippers, or ranged weapons like zip guns and rifles. The mod provides hours of unmitigated fun, especially if you're into the wasteland theme. Oh, and the world generator is pre-set for an arid climate, with the land the shape of either USA, Russia or something random. Pretty cool. Also, the latest version of the mod is customized for the latest version of DF, which means that natural caverns, and all that, are in.

Yup. Still I think merging rocket launchers and the like with explosives is a good move.

Yeah it has tilesets. Probably a few of them to choose from.

this download comes with the tileset. It also comes with the actual DF program, so there's no mucking about with the program files. Just download, unpack, and play.
Also, there may be more tilesets to choose from in the discussion thread for the mod; there were for his other mods.

EDIT:
Oh, and if you do try it out, you'll love the title/game music ;)

Why is that?

It's very reminiscent of the approach he took towards the skill system in Van Buren. He would give elaborate explanations of his rationale on the old BIS forums, and the community would get into vigorous debates with him.

Both are a pulled-from-ass way to give you extra stats. Surgeries are marginally better because at least there's some explanation ("huh huh, we'll implant these, huh, chips in you, and huh, you'll have extra strenght huh huh")
No wonder devs don't waste time on games trying to make sense. The players don't pay attention anyway.

Great job, moron.
