<a href="http://www.avault.com">Adreneline Vault</a> reports that Strategy First's two upcoming Jagged Alliance games, entitled "Jagged Alliance 3" and "Jagged Alliance 3D" respectively, are being developed by Russian developer <a href="http://www.mistgames.ru/eng/main.shtml">MiST Land South</a>, the developer of <a href="http://www.mistgames.ru/eng/projects/projects/pc/news.shtml">Paradise Cracked</a> and the upcoming <a href="http://www.polgame.com/eng/">Power of Law</a> in a contract between <a href="http://www.strategyfirst.com/">Strategy First</a> and Russian publisher <a href="http://www.gamefactoryinteractive.com/">Game Factory Interactive</a>. It should also be noted that the same developers will also be developing the third installment of the turn-based strategy Disciples series of games.

<br>
Strategy First will be the North American publisher of all three games, with Game Factory handling the publishing in Russia and Eastern European countries. More information about these projects will be released in the coming weeks.

The question is: What's the difference between Jagged Alliance 3 and Jagged Alliance 3D?

My guess would be to say that JA3 is a 'true sequel' to JA2, retaining the isometric display of JA2, with a new 3D engine, and some enhanced gameplay (lighting, shadows, etc). JA3D on the other hand could be something like Incubation.

Take note that these guys just love their turn-based games so I doubt that JA3D is going to be a first person shooter or anything like that.

They are both turn based tactical games. Totally different settings and backgrounds though. I won't say more until some official announcement is made on this topic. This should underline the fact that we are taking the JA franchise very seriously.

The two games, since they share the same code base for the most part and since they should also be able to share the same tool base make sense to do on the programming side. On the art side, of course, it is more resource intensive, and so is it on the design side.
So they are both 3D right ? isnt it kind of stupid to call two games by the same company being developed at the same time with almost the same name ? it WILL cause confusion, and having "3D" in a game's name brings bad luck :p

Mebbe the 3D means something other than graphics? Who knows...

Anyways, the developer is pretty good, I enjoyed Paradise Cracked despite it's problems, but from seeing Power of Law, they have learned from their mistakes, and they can do turn-based tactical games well. This will be pretty good, just I will get on my knees and beg for destructible terrian as in Soldiers and Silent Storm.

edit: o shit 1000 posts

What I'm sorry to hear is the Disciples news.

What happened to the original developers?

It might just be a remake with 3d but SF has already done a couple rereleases. It could also just be the code name for another game using the same engine.

Strategy First internally developed Disciples.

Hmm, that makes sense, I guessed something like that before, but I guess I forgot it. That's probably what it is, though.

Just adding "3D" sucks, if we let this happen before we know it we will have a "JA 64" and a "Wizardry Advance" :P
