Big interview with Brian Fargo over at IGN about Bard's Tale. Damned thing is four pages long, in fact. Anyway, here's one of them:

IGN: Why did you decide to revisit this franchise?

Brian Fargo: The Bard's Tale was my first real big RPG hit so it seemed appropriate to launch inXile around a game by the same name. I have a long history with RPGs, having produced or been involved with everything from Bard's Tale, Wasteland, Fallout and Baldur's Gate. I was anxious to get back to my roots and work on another RPG. There is also a significant fan base out there, excited for a revival of the property, so it seemed like the perfect vehicle for inXile to make a cutting edge RPG title.

I dunno, I'd say something more like a remake of Bard's Tale Construction Set would have been a better way to do it than an action CRPG that automates item selling. I would have settled for a two word answer over that answer, NAME RECOGNITION.

Why do I allways thrill when hear words *we* {variable pointing at gameDEv company} "to make a cutting edge RPG title". What's so cutting about that allways?

Name recognition is all well and good, but this is much closer to "swindling the fan base for a few quick bucks." It's like that crappy movie where this one dude gets himself elected senator because he has the same name as a recently deceased senator, and runs on "The Name You Know."

But I'm just a bitter BT fan.

there are lots of two words that would apply some far fouler than the ones you used. This game is going to be terrible I read somewhere that the bards constant bitching made it almost impossible to play without going insane.

damn... how many of you even played the original Bards Tale, or Wasteland??? those games were practically revolutionary... except I always wondered why the default party in bards tale was so overpowered... and wasteland... that game rocked my non-animating EGA world

fuck! how the mighty have fallen....

"The Bard's Tale was my first real big RPG"

The Bard's Tale is Michael Crawford's game, not Brian's. What's he on about?!
