You'll be glad to hear that JoWood decided to enhance the Forsaken Gods expansion to Arcania: Gothic 3.

I am sure you are already itching to ask some questions, here are the most important answers:

Question: Is this an official patch?
Answer: Yes, it totally is. It will be part of the soon to be sold Enhanced Edition of Forsaken Gods, it's being built by the Community Patch Team, produced by our newly formed game development company Mad Vulture Games and it will be published by JoWooD.

Question: You have founded a studio for this (Mad Vulture Games) and the patch is being developed under that name?
Answer: MVG is to be looked at independantly from the Community Patch Team. The patch is still developed by the latter.

Question: But the patch will be for free?
Answer: Of course! The patch will be free for download for everyone. Additionally it will be part of any future release of the addon directly.

Question: So you are getting paid?
Answer: Yes we do! JoWooD and Mad Vulture Games have come to a mutual agreement, and we'll get our piece of the cake.

Question: Are you professionals?
Answer: Well that was a big topic in Gothic 3 times . But yes, we are a professional development team which still knows their roots to be in the Gothic community. Which is why we announce this here first.

Question: How long do you already work on the patch?
Answer: Since quite some time! The first talks have started in April so it's already more than a half year we've been working on fixes so far.

Question: That means the patch must be HUGE?
Answer: Well, apart from bugfixes, the reworked combat system from Gothic 3 1.74, new balancing, improved graphics, revised ingame models, dozens of adjustments in quests and dialogs, improvements to world design as well as stability and performance improvements there are only few adjustments.

Question: Is there going to be new content such as weapons, armors, shields, quests or so?
Answer: No, there are no plans for such things. But that's fine because now the addon may unfold its full potential.

Question: May I test the patch before it is finally released?
Answer: If you do not have any kind of problem with travelling to a remote but well guarded island in the polar sea, endure the strict safety measures and play the game in a hermetically sealed room while being flashy-thinged afterwards in order to not remember anything, then the answer would be yes. In that case please write an application to polarseaexperience@madvulture.de. Otherwise: No.

Question: Is there something you can show us? Screenshots? Clips? Wallpapers? Stuffed animals? Baseball caps?
Answer: There will be more material very soon. We will keep you up-to-date!

Question: When is the patch going to be release or when will the Enhanced Edition hit the shelves?
Answer: When it's done! But we are planning on a release in Q4 2010.

Last hope for Jowood to make some cash?

Whatever, It´s good to hear that the cp-team gets some payments after all. But I´m still not going to buy the addon and give jowood my cash. Dignity and all that...

I can't see how this is anything but good news. Weird news, yes. But also good.

I mean, they can't make the expansion any worse than it was, can they?

Can they?

That's what ArcaniA 4 is for. But still, they are actually trying to re-sell this shit, with the patch done by a community effort that's being paid a likely minimum?

And they're trying to ride Witcher's coattails with Enhanced Edition? The nerve - they better have twice the tit cards and the original werewolf voice actor.

Eh, might be worth a shit if they manage to rework the combat system sufficiently.

Hope they fix the quests(ie. make them worthwhile and make fucking sense), and fix fucking Trelis!

Really though it seems that with the 'success' of Arcania, Jewood really is in a last desperate bit to make an extra few dollars with this reheating of it's last pathetic attempt to ride on the Gothic name.

Never played Forsaken Gods, but Gothic 3 with the fan patch was awesome. If this makes Forsaken Gods into the same level of RPG goodness... well... that would be lovely.

I fished Forsaken Gods out of the bargin bin back in the day just because it was a "gothic" game. I've never had the guts to install it.

Forsaken is a very appropriate description to this abomination.... it's a shame I will never again be able to use this poor joke.

Decline of SV.

So, they sit on a broken game without patching it for a couple of years, release an even suckier game, then decide to go back and fix the old broken game?

Can someone please explain to me how these guys haven't gone out of business yet?

It was a moronic move to hand over development of a Gothic game to a unknown and a noob studio (whose claim to fame was a racing title no one has ever heard of, even in India).

But judging from ArcaniA mess, and the bugfest Gothic 3 was, it's Jowood that fucks up these games, not the developers (mostly).

Nothing has ever convinced me to ever play Gothic 3. I'll just stick to my Gothic 2 + NOTR.

I would assume they knew that the fan patch made Gothic 3 into something many would call good, and they found out the same team was going to patch this, knew they would go for cheap, then paid for it to try an suck a re-release out of their hardcore fans.

Funny, sounds like Dung(eon) Lords CE.
Except that this one will be "Enhanced", not "Collector's" Edition.

Weak move

Some thing still don't make sense though, like why they didn't implement the G3 CP fixes into FG in the first place. Or why they waited TWO YEARS to fix FG; why not throw a bone to the community early on that if they deliver the patch by X date then they'll get paid? patching FG within a few months might've saved it, but I cannot imagine anyone who would go and buy it now. I mean in the time it took them to patch FG PB went ahead and released a whole different game!

Ah why do I bother. It's Jowood.

Is Jowood part of a conglomerate? Ie, some parent company they can mooch over some kind of strategic footing in the videogame market?

After Piranha Bytes and Jowood parted ways I don't see why anyone here would care about Forsaken Gods or any of the other crap they've released, Jowood is a joke. Patch? How is that going to help anything? Would a patch really have helped Forsaken Gods? Was the game even worth the time to download? I'll never know, because I'm part of the camp that judges crap without ever playing it. I'm not being sarcastic.

Maybe we can destroy them both? One can hope.

You are wise beyond your years. Or maybe wise for your years.

I agree. This is such an obvious money-grubbing scheme that it's actually sickening. Hopefully people will lash back, mightly against it.
