<a href="http://www.actiontrip.com" target=_blank>Actiontrip</a> serves up what mightn't amount to the best written <a href="http://www.actiontrip.com/reviews/silentstormsentinels.phtml" target=_blank>review</a> I've ever read, but from what I know it's the first take on Nival's Silent Storm: Sentinels in English. Here's a quick nibble:

Read the rest of the interview and you'll see what I'm saying Spaz - it's just plain awful. Missed commas, some spelling errors, horrible choppy sentences - if not totally gramatically erroneous.

Still. After having played Ja2 - it's not worth 90%. But then, most games that get 90% aren't.

I never said the game didn't have its plusses. It just has too many faults for me to ignore. If I were to rate JA2 and Silent Storm I'd give JA2 a 90% and Silent Storm a 70%. It's somewhat good, but it isn't great, either.

Agreed. After finishing Silent storm sentinels and playing JA2, i would rate sentinels prolly around the 70% area.

Not in the same league, definitely. But the most important thing is that it's getting better. By the sequel or beyond we could be approaching JA.

Hell, with the suckage I expect out of the new JA games maybe SS has already passed JA! :)

Considering Strategy First is under Chap 11, us seeing the new JA games looks pretty flakey, so yeah - I guess we either hope some ex-Sirtech employees get their hands on the franchise or hold our breaths for Nival's future attempts at the genre.

I finally got around to trying the S3 demo, I did like the sound of the mercenaries and bartering - it brought back pleasant memories of JA2. After trying out the demo I can see of course that it has very little to do with JA2, but I am still interested in a decent TB tactical game.

The problem I have is that after playing the demo missions for a while I got to the one where you had to go deep into a mine and save some archives. I killed off an enemy agent who tried to run, grabbed the encrypted notes he had on him and then went to leave using the ladder to the south, but my troops walk over to operate it and just stand there. Game over it seems. Is the rest of the game as buggy as this? Will there be show stoppers at every corner? I've also heard rumblings about "Sci-fi" elements that have "ruined" the game apparently. Personally I don't give a shit if the exit velocity of the garand is one unit off or they have mutants shooting lasers out of their eyes, as long as it is set in well and adds to the game, so should I be worried? I can live without it if it will simply frustrate more than entertain.

The last thing about the game is that I am disappointed when I think about what could be done with such a good engine but has not.

The supposed Sci-Fi is the Panzerkleins, from what I gather. They were already in S2, but you get your hands on them earlier this time. And no, I don't think I ever saw any major bugs.
