Heuristic Park has released a trailer for Dungeon Lords which weighs in at 10mb. The trailer is entitled "Enchanted Weapons" and is available from 3DGamers and Worthplaying.

The game's controls looks incredibly sluggish, especially when she runs into the crowd of monsters and sets them on fire. I can't call the camera impressive, either.

Pretty bad if that is the best they can do to whet our appetites.

Here's the problem when making a CRPG that's nothing but combat. When the combat sucks, there's nothing else to make up for it.

Hubbah! Hubbah!

Everyone knows chainmail bikinis are practical and were in widespread use in medieval times. I saw them in a museum display, oh wait, maybe I'm thinking of a porn film I saw. My mistake.

Either way it means preorders aplenty! I'll buy two incase one wears out.

I'd better order in a few boxes of kleenex to go with it. Who knows, it might even be as 'fun' as FOBOS, we all know how awesome that game was, thanks to the developers concentrating on putting bondage sluts into it.

I really think the developers need to either get out more and interact with some real females or they need to stop aiming for the young teens.

Considering the average age of gamers is closer to 30, I'd hope they were over any obsessions with polygon titties by that point.

I think the figure was 29, and that was just gamers in general. It's not surprising considering how long games machines have been around.

Thats really interesting... maybe there is hope for a developer to recognise there is a large market in this age range.

but having said that, i'm almost definately gonna play KOTOR2 and probably even this Dungeon lords crap, so they win anyway :(

Well, I reckon it looked fine.
The combat looks no worse than that in Bloodlines, and I dont see a problem with the camera - there was no weird "now you see me, now you don't" weirdness that you get in even the likes of NWN.

The only issue that I could see was perhaps the over-use of effects, in one part the action is almost covered by multi coloured flamey shit.

Other than that, I think its looking good.
Note that I said "looking" - the apparently very unfinished state of the demo played by RPGDot and the experience I had with W&W tells me that this will be a bug-fest. Im crossing my fingers and naively hoping however...

My problem with the camera is that it occasionally allowed the protagonist to block the view when he had his back to the wall instead of simply making the wall transparent. When the character jumped into the crowd of monsters it looked very hectic and I didn't even know what was going on because the fire effects were obscuring everything. It looked slightly better than Bloodlines, but in comparison to Jedi Academy, it leaves much to be desired.

Saint summed up the gameplay in IRC:
Alright! Let's back up and throw spells! KEep backing up! More spells!

Haha, okay fair enuff.

But while I agree with what you're saying, I don't still don't think its that big a problem. (YET - when a demo comes I reserve the right to whine "Dammit Exitium, you were RIGHT" )

One thing I noticed is that it supplies a health bar thingy for the monster you are currently targetting.
Im glad of that, as I misinterpreted something that was written about "no damage points flashing up" when you hit, and thought that you would have no idea about how much damage you did, and how much damage you had to do to bring the creature down. Thank fuck they at least have some sort of indicator.

^They backed out of that - originally there was no real HUD info (other than one bar for your own health and one bar for mana) but they've since changed their minds for obvious reasons.

Colour me as one of the people highly dubious they can pull this together in time but if they do, it might be fun as an action combat thingy.

One thing that bothers me about the "camera" is that I could rarely tell what was going on around the character in the game. It doesn't give a wide enough field of view, and the character takes up a huge chunk of the screen. If it's a real time combo fighting action blow out, then I need as much feedback about what's going on more than three to five feet away from me. A critter could come at you from the side, and you wouldn't know they were there until they were right on top of you.

That and "Back up. Fire spell. Repeat." didn't look interesting.

If the field of view is always limited to what was shown, then, yes, there may be some valid concerns there in certain situations.

However, there is other footage (DLGP01001.mov) that implies that you can zoom the view in and out as you see fit.

Without some developer commentary to clarify I am in the "what the fuck!? I hope it turns out okay" camp.

So it's just Painkiller with a fantasy skin then?

Well there are alot of unknowns in that video, but tbh I thought it looked fine. Its alot smoother than the first video, and it looked and sounded cool.

At the end of the day, its combat focused. So if you want to hack/magic things, get stronger and hack/magic bigger things. Buy this game, and it looks purty which is a nice bonus. Don't believe its a deep and involving RPG, because it was never billed as one.
