This time, <b>Lukas Kristjanson</b> of <a href="http://www.bioware.com">BioWare</a> is attempting to justify "magical items" and "artifacts" in the Star Wars based CRPG. Here's a bit:

<blockquote>It is not only possible, it is highly likely that unique weapons and other items have been produced and then forgotten over the millennia. The variation could have stemmed from a little known species that knew the secrets of coaxing just a little more power out of their droids, or from the customizations of an ingenious bounty hunter who liked his targets to die quick (but wasn't quite so good with jet-packs). Equipment in the Star Wars setting has always been represented as very personal and distinctive, like crankily unreliable getaway ships, or the lightsaber of a Jedi who has just completed training.</blockquote>

So, we got D&D rules and now D&D style ancient weapons of ultimate doom.
