<A href="http://www.gonegold.com">Gone Gold</a> has posted their <A href="http://www.gonegold.com/index.shtml#Value">Value of the Week</a> news item, which features <b>Bill Harris</b>' opinion of the top best games this year. The list includes <a href="Http://icewind2.blackisle.com">Icewind Dale 2</a> in eighth place, <a href="http://nwn.bioware.com">Neverwinter Nights</a> in fourth place, and <A href="http://www.myfreedomforce.com">Freedom Force</a> in first place. Here's a clip about <a href="http://icewind2.blackisle.com">IWD2</a>:

<blockquote>I've loved every Black Isle RPG over the last few years and this was no exception. Solid third edition rules implementation made this an enjoyable title even if it wasn't as deep as Baldur's Gate II.</blockquote>

Being less deep than BG2 certainly should win some kind of award...

Mainstream Reviewer of the year award.
I played IWD enjoyed it for what it was despite some very frustrating characterization (or lack thereof). One was enough for me. Can't imagine playing the 2nd, not to mention paying to play the 2nd & claiming to *Love* it.

Frustration of IWD started at the beginning where I killed someone I ought not have (& broke the game). Had a Paladin who could care less what folk did. Got stuck in a damned druid village as a base for way too long etc. Ah well. IWD 2 isn't my cup of tea & no amount of *good* reviewing is going to convince me it is.

Well, given all the other CRPGs that came out this year, and the hype surrounding a few of them, it wouldn't shock me if this was as close to RPG of the Year as IWD2 gets.
