Got Game and Merscom have announced the general availability of the fantasy-themed RPG Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition (also known as Kult elsewhere) in the United States as it has been shipped to stores today.

Weston, CT - April 11, 2005 - Got Game Entertainment LLC and co-publisher Merscom LLC today announced that "Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition" for the PC has shipped to retail stores across North America. The combat-oriented and story-driven RPG, developed by 3D People in association with Chris Bateman and his International Hobo team, casts you in a world where God is dead and religion heresy. As the Inquisitor, assigned to stamp out the last remnants of religion, will you crush religion underfoot or become its savior? In a world where good and evil defy convention, your choices have consequences and will lead you to one of six different endings. Featuring a unique system of over 100 attunements for complete character customization to prepare for over 50 quests, "Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition" retails for $29.99 (USD) and is rated "M" for Mature by the ESRB for Blood and Violence.

On instructions to destroy a significant religious relic, "Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition" draws you into a battle between two warring secret societies – a conspiracy of mages whose goal is true power, and a shadowy cult seeking resurrection of the Dead God. The dynamic world changes as allies, enemies, and story all adapt to your actions, and game mechanics for healing, combat, and treasure create fluid, engaging gameplay. Set in isometric view for ease of exploration, "Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition" boasts approximately 50 beautifully rendered locations and more than 30 monsters each with its own habitat.

"As witnessed every day in the news, few things evoke more passion, contemplation, debate, and conflict than religion," said Got Game President Howard Horowitz. "This game, in the context of a combat-oriented RPG, asks a big ‘what if?’ when it comes to religion and what choices you would make in a world where religion is heresy."

Placed in the amoral world of the Heretic Kingdoms, you are left to decide your own morality. As in the real world, your actions have consequences, and you must decide if you can live with those consequences. Will you play as an altruistic heroine, a vicious and selfish egotist, or just a person trying to get your job done? Your actions will lead you to one of six different endings depending on where you decide your loyalties lie.

The US version of the game is probably pre-patched with all the latest fixes, so you won't have to go through the nasty bugs the Europeans had to deal with upon the game's release.

I thought the game was okay. If you're in the U.S. spring for the european version, and send a nice message to GotGame and Merscom that their pandering to the religous right cost them a sale. Or stick it to someone, I'm just really frustrated with stupid religous conservatives right now.

Basically they thought that we in the U.S. were too stupid to handle the complex mental gymnastics required to work around the inventory bug when you discovered it 80% of the way through the game and found out the patch only worked on new games. We demand all the fancy european bugs!

Actually, I'm pissed because they changed the title to make it less satanic. The original title was "Kult", which like anything that is not in the bible and doesn't lower prices at Walmart - must be satanic. Australia is so lucky - I wish we could have gotten the criminals.

That's clearly because you are a freedom-hating Satanist.

This is a short, fun game. They could have done more with the Dream World but it's acceptable entry-level crpg. I hope to see a deeper game if they make a Kult 2.

Kult is an interesting Swedish PnP RPG. I think that's why they changed the name of the game.

Well this would be a more acceptable reason for changing the name, but if it conflicts with a Swedish RPG, why would it by named Kult in the EU, but not Kult in the U.S. It's just stupid enough to pass as valid patent-mark law.

Behind you.
There's also a Kult Records in New York.

Really, though, Heretic Kindgoms: The Inquisition makes more sense as a name than Kult: Heretic Kingdoms.
