Just for fun, <b>Joseph Hewitt</b> has posted <a href="http://ca.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/pyrrho12/detail?.dir=6c59&.dnm=772c.jpg&.src=ph">some screenshots and concept art</A> of <b>Gearhead 2</b> to allow people to check out the new 3D engine for the game. There's also his <A href="http://www.rpgcodex.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=7219">South Park alter-ego</a> in there, which isn't part of the game.

I personally like the <a href="http://us.f3.yahoofs.com/users/419f0480z3266adbf/6c59/__sr_/d52d.jpg?ph5a5iCBivf055u_">building made out of fast food boxes</a>.

EDIT: Nevermind, the game will be 3D.

But still, how the fuck do you get the first one to have graphics? Something with SDL images and shit.

Why not finish Gearhead 1 first and just call this 'gearhead 2' a 3D frontend?

And why do male anime characters look so incredibly gay and skinny?

Go to http://gearhead.roguelikedevelopment.org and download the sdlwin and sdlimage packages, then unzip them both to the same location.

GH1 has been in feature lock since v0.9, so it essentially is finished. The work now is fixing any remaining bugs and editing the support files. There are going to be a lot of changes in GH2 beyond just the graphics, so it can't be used as a frontend for GH1.

And why do male anime characters look so incredibly gay and skinny?

It's caused by the estrogenic chemicals seeping from the fast food cartons that they live in.

I call for 5fps stick-people hanna-barbara animation. - With tons of stock footage.

So when's GH2 coming out Py?
Given my regular habit of releasing early and often, I'd guess that a playable version should be ready sometime this summer. I'm hoping for the first release of GH2 to councide with the release of GH1v1.0.

Most people don't like the graphics just because my drawings suck. :?

GearHead is drawn in a cartoonish style, but I'm not actively trying to imitate anime. I'd say that my drawing style is more derivative of Bloom County and Mad Magazine. It's also been influenced by anime, of course, since I do watch a lot of cartoons... however, I don't do big eyes, and have never once either drawn or implied a tentacle rape, which is more than John Kovalic can say.

The graphics are all located in the Image/ directory. If you don't like them, they can all be (farily) easily replaced. Alternatively you could play the ASCII version of the game.

why bother with 3d graphics, has it any impact on gameplay?
iso view was fine
There are several advantages to using 3D. The display can be easily rotated and zoomed. Another advantage is that the 3D map renders more quickly than the SDL isometric one. The big advantage for me, though, is that the 3D renderer was far simpler to program. The original GH screen output code is an ungodly monster; the new 3D renderer is a mere 800 lines of nicely readable code. I know, this doesn't matter a bit to players, but anything that keeps the developer happy must be a good thing.
