There's a preview of Hellgate London over at Boomtown that covers random generation, people taking pictures of London, and stuff like:

his is done to make the game totally secure, when playing online. A client-based multiplayer game, that is a game that has all of its data installed on your local machine, is far too susceptible to cheating in various shapes. But as your single-player character won’t be connected with your multiplayer character, you must play with them separately. The problem is that you have to start over when you want to try the other part of the game, but it’s a plus for players without broadband connections, because they still get a full game, even though they can’t play it online.

That's a pisser. One of the great things about Diablo 2 is the ability to play your single player character in open play if you want. Also, that open character won't get deleted because you take a break for a few months. Meh.

Open Play was pretty damn retarded, yeah. I had no choice but to play on the Closed Battlenet server to avoid the legions of l33t cheaters.

Ive been playing Restricted Area alot lately and I just remembered something diablo needed and it had better be in Hellgate: a universial stash box that all your characters can access.

It's dumb that it doesnt exsist in alot of action RPGs.

Yeah.
It does exist in GW though (post-searing). Makes it easy to hand cool swords n shit that my ranger doesnt use to my warrior/necro who is considerably lower level and isnt up to those parts yet.

OOps. Talking about GW again. Bad boy.

That's why you only play with people you know.

The main reason to play closed battle.net was mainly because Blizzard offered better drops in closed than open.

I'm glad to see that they're implementing their own Battle.net. If anything, that's going to make or break the online game. Ascaron definitely screwed up there due to their poorly implemented stuff.

one problem with Open D2 was, from what I hear from a friend who is VERY involved to this day with a trading site, that a lot of the dupes and cheats present in closed came from people who found how to load open characters into the closed servers.
