There's a preview of Fable: the Lost Chapters over at WorthPlaying. They mention the broken promises and how this re-release won't give us what was promised, but they also mention this:

It's probably important to note that Fable is firmly not a PC-styled RPG. The attacking scheme is very console, using the spacebar to hold a "lock" on an enemy and the mouse buttons to swing an attack, block or fire off magic or archery. Attacking is fairly hard to coordinate at first. You'll find yourself swinging at the target behind the guy you actually meant to hit, or firing off a wave of lightning bolts that roast three bad guys, two good guys and a relatively innocent tree. Archery fares a little better on the PC; First-person aiming of your bow is still a little awkward but improved over using analog sticks for such things. Over time, you get a little more used to changing targets on the fly and adjusting your aim, so with enough practice, you can start to do things like fighting around certain NPCs without laying hands or weapons on their person.

Hooray for ports! Really, that right there is all I needed to completely lose interest in the game.

I fail to understand this godforsaken auto-aiming ESPECIALLY in a port to the PC. These designers had no thought that perhaps they should consider changing the controls to suit the PC and the PC player rather than force console control mentality on a keyboard?

They never EVER played a 3rd/1st person game on the PC to even cause them to PERHAPS CONSIDER doing it similarly?? The bow in Thief didn't come unto their minds? MUST we have auto-aim with mouselook now?

These professionaly paid people can't comprehend that there's a REASON why consoles have the controls they do and why PC's have grown to control games they way THEY do?

This is one of those moments I would desperately love to ask "WHY" directly to their faces, but alas will never get the chance. I know what they'd say and they'd be wrong. They'd lie to cover up the fact that they are just too lazy to change the core control code, yet spend a year adding "33% More Schtuff.tm".

I like this game and was looking for an excuse to play it again (more schtuff.tm) but this just ruins it...it goes without saying how important controls are to a game...moreso than more 'schtuff.tm', yet this is STILL a constant point of contention with developers...idiots.

Cheers
