It seems that, apart from getting a German Collector's Edition, the HD remake of Realms of Arkania 1: Blade of Destiny has had a new English trailer released:

A legend reborn as Realms of Arkania-Blade of Destiny returns! Realms of Arkania -- Blade of Destiny is a one-to-one remake of the 1992 original, adored by a generation of Role Players and one of the most successful German RPG's of the 1990's.

Get ready to return to Thorwal, one of the oldest cities of Aventurien. Make sure your wits are sharpened before walking down the small alleys of Thorwal and Prem, and prepare to stop the Orcisch threat while creating a mighty alliance between nations. Featuring a complete visual reimagining along with a comprehensive overhaul of every aspect of the gameplay, Realms of Arkania -- Blade of Destiny is set to captivate a 21st century audience of new and old fans alike.

It doesn't seem to mention a specific release date except for the vague "2013", but at least it does promise an English-language release of the remake. Time to get excited, international RoA fans?

They're using the term "HD" pretty loosely with those tactical graphics. Yech.

As long as the gameplay remains untouched...

Looks good, but I still hope they keep the original VA on the spellcasting for both genders, or at least their approach to "direction", as there was a certain amazing campy value to how hammed up it was---female spellcaster that was probably just a random staffer busting out with an overwrought echoing enunciation effect on FUUUULMIIIN~! is just perfect.

Looks like ass compared to the original. If the combat grid doesn't acknowledge diagonals then this might be the most unnecessary remake since BG on NWN2 engine.

I know only people like us can get into waxing poetic about the character and style in VGA graphics, but this is completely devoid of those. Looks like stock assets. That inventory/character sheet window is kinda nice but I see no point in getting this, especially when GOG has the originals.

Looks fine, but I'll just stick to the originals.

There's that other upcoming DSA game, Blackguards, anyway.

Indeed the 2D art and 3D models look like generic stock assets which are created by an amateur artist. :(
Original RoA series have cool 2D art and gritty illustrations, definitely look better than this remake.
Still I want to see more of this and I always welcome another proper DSA CRPGs.

I'll definitely play this if it's not garbage because I never played the originals, but they could have switched to blobber combat and it would have been an upgrade in my opinion. The switch from free-roaming first person to grid-based top down for combat is a little jarring, especially considering how shitty the graphics look.
