I choose the way of a battle mage for my character. The process of its development goes as follows - I accomplish quests and accumulate some money; while doing this I prefer not to fight, I just pay off from the brigands or try to avoid skirmishes at all. Then, I carry on trade for some period of time and keep on fulfilling tasks, if they are on my way, of course. After that, having got some gold pieces, I go to Osgart to learn some spells (Initial magic - Magic Star and Magic Flame). I alternate learning with carrying on trade and accomplishing NPCs' quests; it takes time to restore student points. If I come across less powerful and skilful opponents than me, I attack them. In this case, I have to use both magic and weapons. The points I get are spent on "magic" characteristics (intellect) and "battle" ones (constitution, strength) as well. This is necessary for the hero to be able to put on better armor. The following way of actions is simple; I learn new spells and advance the level of the previously learned ones. Don't neglect spending money on studies and good armor and weapons. A weapon is necessary because it's hard to be a "pure" mage; you often have to come in melee with rather quick enemies.
"Merchant" skills such as Trade, Geography and Speech are also of great use for my hero, so I learn them. I earn money by trade. It is very important to find a profitable route to carry on this activity. If I trade between, worlds I have to learn the skill "Portal" in addition to the mentioned above ones.
