The <A href="http://www.swkotor.com">official Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic site</a> has been updated with a <a href="http://www.lucasarts.com/products/swkotor/characters.htm">new character profile</a>. Here it is:
<br>
<br>
<blockquote><b>Carth Onassi</b>
<br>
A career soldier at 38, Carth has seen more than his fair share of war. A skilled pilot and superior tactician, he has always faced his duty with grim determination, believing that loyalty and dedication to the Republic would see him through. He has come to discover, however, that not everyone holds this opinion.
<br>
<br>
Hailed as a hero of the Mandalorian War, when the Sith began threatening Republic space again, Carth thought that they could be fought like any other enemy, but their influence extends far past simple starships and blasters. Though he will not speak of it, a very personal betrayal has affected him deeply. Duty called him to fight the Sith, but now outright hatred threatens to replace it.
<br>
<br>
It's no longer clear whether he fights to stop the destruction, or to avenge what has already been destroyed.</blockquote>
<br>
<br>
I thought the Sith were Jedi who followed the dark path, so wouldn't they already be in republic space?
<br>

Well, obviously, they formed an army of evil and started invading the galaxy.

C'mon, Saint, that was a pretty weak jape. You can do better than that.

See and this is why I hate Bioware. Why must all their games be epic struggles between good and evil. Hell at least in NWN I got to play an evil dude! Why can't I play a Sith guy? How many people have been forced into playing knights in shining armor in their PnP experiences?

This is something I've always hated as well. I don't need my games to be "epic," I don't want to be a god-spawn, I don't want to save the "world." Hell, I would be much happier saving myself, a city, or something on a smaller scale if it meant that the aspects of the adventure (setting, characters, et al.) could be better developed and more, for the lack of a better word, intimate.

I don't know all the background of the Sith other than they were mostly a memory by the time of Episode 4. From what I know of Star Wars, the Republic/Empire doesn't necessarily cover the whole galaxy. There's the Core where things all started out. Then there's the Inner Rim where they have a number of settlements have been settled for a while, then the Outer Rim, which is the frontier. A lot of the galaxy hadn't even been charted by the time of the movies. Also somewhere is the Corporate Sector which is run by corporations and isn't part of the Republic, though I don't know if that's been created yet.
