<A href="http://www.microsoft.com/games/fable/">Fable: The Lost Chapters</a> has gone gold. Here's some hype to make this news post look longer:
<br>
<blockquote>Based on the best-selling award-winning Xbox title Fable, Fable: The Lost Chapters is now fully optimized for the Windows platform complete with expanded content, greater customization, new quests and enhanced graphics.
<br>
<br>
In this groundbreaking role-playing adventure game from Lionhead Studios, your every action determines your character's skills, appearance and morality. Your character's life story is created from childhood through to adulthood and on to old age. Grow from an inexperienced child into the most powerful being in the world, spoken of by all and immortalized in legend.
<br>
<br>
As additional story and side quests await, choose the path of righteousness, or dedicate your life to evil, and see yourself transform into a reflection of your actions and decisions. Age leaves you wizened and battle leaves you scarred as you explore the world of Albion and the plethora of expanded and enhanced content.
<br>
<br>
With experience comes advancement and physical change, whether it be expanding muscles, a keen eye and nimble form, or the buzz of magical energies around your finger tips. As you develop your alter ego, the world reacts to you and your actions. People comment on your successes and failures, your appearance, and your behavior.
<br>
<br>
Fable: The Lost Chapters offers Windows gamers even more character customization choices that will impact your appearance. The denizens of Albion's many opinions are expressed through applause, mockery, trepidation, panic, and even flirtation if they feel so inclined.
<br>
<br>
Each person you aid, each flower you crush, each creature you slay, will change this world forever. In Fable: The Lost Chapters, gamers decide: "Who will I be?"</blockquote>
<br>
I'll be the guy who passes on this one.

I played it through on the XBOX (boo, hiss) and enjoyed it immensely. Apparently
there is to be more content in the PC version too (though I can't really justify to
myself buying the same game twice). There are (only occasionally simplistic)
side-quests to keep the player interested, hidden items and areas. There
individual slots for armour, and you can further customise the character with
tattoos and haircuts that affect your stats. Amongst other details you can
buy houses, change your title and get married. Even bystander NPCs have a
pleasantly complex range of reactions. The game uses twitch combat, which
isn't everyone's cup of tea however.

Also, there is no soil-erosion or Patrick Stewart. Ah well. :cool:

I disliked the game, personally. It was basically a short mission-based Zelda with stats and ham-fisted morale choices (but minus the great dungeons). KOTOR actually handled the morale choices better. One mission has you exploring a cave to rescue a kidnapped boy -- whether you're evil or not. The evil way here is to find an imprisoned bandit inside the cave and release him (how evil!). You have to protect him as you make your way to where the boy is being held (evil!). When you get there, the nymph that is holding him captive allows you to take the boy if you're willing to trade his life for another's. Giving her the bandit is what gets you evil points.

At least with Black & White, I saw Molyneaux's wild imagination at work, but Fable was just some generic Disney-esque fantasy game with light humor. I really don't see how they can still call the game ground-breaking when KOTOR beat them to the punch by having a good and evil path, and GTA: San Andreas, which was released around the same time as Fable, offered the same character customization features.

I mite get it when it gets down to $30. I remember them saying that it would only be on the X-BOX forever, and with all the fancy hype they had about it I was kinda disappointed since I didn't buy consoles.

It treads so heavy handedly and clumsily on such worn RPG paths that (thanks to soil erosion) it breaks the ground.

Well, if I'm really desperate for nothing more than a third person action game with small RPG elements... I think I'll reinstall Jedi Academy.

I completely lost interest in this when they started talking about how they just ported the controls from the console version to a keyboard map. I really hate ports that feel like ports.
