As in the first game, you’re not stuck in a class. The game recommends, rightfully so, that you stick to a specialization. The skill trees reinforce that. For example… a dual-wielder won’t have much use for increasing the skill at which he blocks with a shield. Dungeon Siege 2, however, leaves that entirely up to you. If you really want your combat mage to become skilled in throwing knives, then you’re more than welcome to do that. The skill tree allows for a much wider variety of characters and you can truly tailor you character to be whatever you like. My level 30 melee can potentially be very different than your level 30 melee.

The question would be how much different can a level 30 dual wielder be from another level 30 dual wielder? The skill trees, particularly the melee set, really don't offer much beyond three types.

Well, they'd _probably_ end up very similar, but they wouldn't have to.

For instance, I made sure to get some ranged skill so I could put points into Dodge and Survival which are pretty good skills for any class if you ask me. Presumably you could pick occasional skills from other classes to. You might get enough nature magic skill to use the buffing spells with your dual wielder for instance...

But there's not necessarily much motivation to do so, since party members can fill in gaps like that.

Just had a wicked thought though... wondering if I can put a point into the throwing weapons tree and then dual wield throwing weapons. That'd be cool...

Well Saint, I'll answer your question with a question:

In Diablo 2, how different are 2 Level 80 Zealadins? or 2 Level 80 Hammerdins? or 2 Level 80 Vengeance Paladins?

They all have the same skills, and if they're min-maxing like most players do, the only difference they'll have is their equipment.

Not the same can be said for DS2, due to the inclusion of Powers. A Dual Wielder needn't necessarily put points into Elemental Strike or whatever it's called, if he prefers Waves of Force. So you've got an additional choice right there.

There are way more melee character builds in stock Diablo 2 than there are in Dungeon Siege. Hammerdin, Zealot Paladin, and Vengence Paladin are just three types from one class. There's also Spearazons, Whirlbarians, Dualbarians, Meleemancers and so on for just melee in Diablo 2.

Maybe, but those all have silly names. :P
