Tags: RPG of the Year

2014 is over, and it was a pretty good year for PC RPGs, definitely the best we've had in a while. Story-focused RPGs, tactical RPGs, "blobbers," JRPGs, ARPGs, etc. -- whatever subgenre you name, chances are there was at least one decent to great RPG of that type released in 2014.

As a result, we fully expect this year's traditional PC RPGOTY voting to be more intense than ever. Which is why esteemed community member felipepepe has chosen to set up a comprehensive poll that includes pretty much every RPG-ish title released last year (or, as in case of Heroine's Quest, very close to it). This includes the most significant expansions and PC ports, too.

In this poll, you can rate any 2014 RPG on a scale from 1 to 5. "1" means you didn't enjoy the game at all, "5" means you think it's really great. It would also be nice of you not to vote on games you haven't played.

VOTE HERE: http://goo.gl/forms/URciWDZiHx

The voting will stay open for another week or so, after which felipepepe will use the magic of science to calculate the results. One game will be chosen as the RPG Codex's official RPG of the Year, but there will be plenty of other data for felipepepe to analyze and share, too. As he put it elsewhere,
felipepepe said:
I chose this survey format because of how much data we can get from it. We can simply sum the rates, do a bayesian average to compensate for popularity, see which is the most player, the least played, the high-rated underdog, the low-rate popular one.

The official discussion thread can be found on the forums, but feel free to discuss the voting here, too.

No user check for votes? Multivote faking is going to be quite easy. EA botnets will have a field day with DAI.

I understand wanting more data to work with, but honestly not using the forums polling function is going to leave this open to trolling.

This is an experimental thingy, basically. It'll be interesting to see how and whether it works. If it produces something altogether un-Codexian, we can always re-do it the traditional way.

Also, I've no idea if Google gives felipepepe enough data to weed out the obvious duplicate/troll votes.

I really hope this does not lead to non-Codexers voting en masse.

Non-Codexers don't read the Codex. :P

Patriotic dewty has been done. All glory to Larian! :salute:

Also, poll is shit for lack of Kerbals. They have classes and experience points and quests now. Clearly RPGOTY material!
:troll:

After Bee made the newspost we went from 280 to 380 votes in just a couple of hours... yet the trend remained similar and Codex-like. I think is safe to saw we weren't invaded by BioDrones.

To be 100% sure I would need to make mandatory for voters to be logged in their Google Accounts. Considering this is the Codex, it would result in a lot of DRAMA and conspiracy theories.

Nonetheless, there are still resources available. And the single troll so far was really dumb.

Why the fuck did both the Codex and the Watch feel that starting to cover weeaboo shit in the polls during an incline year was a good idea?

Doody done.

Scrolling through the list I realized how surprised I would have been a year ago by the three games I gave top marks to (Heroine's Quest, LoGII, and NEO Scavanger, although there was admittedly a lot of games on there I have not yet played). I was sure WL2 or MMX was going to be my personal GotY.

I haven't played any of these games, but I gave CK2, neoscavenger and unrest a 5 and everything else a 1 because I want more games that aren't retarded

I've gotta say there were far more RPG's released this year than I was aware of. I suppose the upside is I have some games I can look into.

That is because RPGCodex progressives consider Doom to be an erpeegee. After all, you your character has a stats (health and armor), there is progression (you collect new guns)...

Xenonauts? RPG?

3 days and 540 answers so far. I think we never had a survey this big... the Top 72 list only had about 360 votes - and it ran for 3 weeks.
