Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
It's decent but you can tell the devs were too afraid to make the game too "experimental" and they chose to dial down gameplay complexity to appeal to The Last of Us crowd, so after a pretty good first few hours, it devolved into doing the same things all over again with no room for creativity. Like, if there's two guards ahead, the game will neatly place a pile of helmet next to them, and you have to sneak to the exact spot it wants to, throw a rock at it to distract them, then sneak through, no other way to deal with that situation, very little chance for improvisation if you get caught. Combat is way too easy for a character who's supposed to be physically weak, you can headshot nearly every enemy with one single slingshot, sometimes twice if they wear a helmet, sometimes it's not a headshot but rather hitting their lamp to attract rats, so the combat can feel just as railroaded as puzzle and stealth.

On the plus side, the atmosphere is impeccable and it has some really gruesome set pieces. We don't have many games set in 14th century France either so if it's your thing then it's worth giving a shot.

The gameplay looks worse than in the first one, with that X-ray vision. Still gonna play it though, there's something captivating about 14th century France. At least it's not modern day America, where trannies kill white male protagonist with a golf club.

I thought the first game was just about compelling enough to finish, even though I found the rat-based gameplay pretty retarded.

Absolute highlight was that early level set on a medieval battlefield post-battle. They absolutely nailed that one.

In any case I have a Gamepass Ultimate sub through to 2024 so will give it a whirl.

Didn't know until now there is wall hack vision in these games. Knowing what's around every corner is the epitome of stealth gameplay, surely. Games will never be good again until either the audience ceases to be retarded or companies stop thinking the audience is retarded.

Played up to chapter 6 and it's ok - graphics, sound and atmosphere are top notch and the puzzling bits are ok. It falls over a bit in combat where wearing a helmet or having a shield somehow makes enemies completely different propositions from everyday grunts and it suffers the same problems as the Last of Us 2 where a teenage girl is regularly killing men twice her size.

If you got any joy out of the first game you'll probably enjoy this.

-strong performances,
-gameloop oscillates between stealth encounters, puzzles (the best ones are those that purely rely on the adverbs you use with the sling), fuck the sliding block puzzles. it does feel formulaic very fast
-pretty graphics, janky animation, funny takedowns can lead to suplexing enemies into geometry
I'll finish it out of stubbornness but won't recommend it. Just something to pass the time while working from home or something
