I finished making this scifi RPG already last summer with RPG Maker VX Ace, but since nobody probably knows it even exists I thought of shilling it here. I hope this is the right subforum for it. The game is free, I make no profit from it in any way. It was a labour of my obsession.

Here's a link to A Storm in the Void: https://komujeeseindustries.wordpress.com
You can download the game here (if the link still works): https://komujeese.itch.io/a-storm-in-the-void
Or here: http://gamejolt.com/games/astorminthevoid/260661

The main emphasis is on the story and the characters. There's exploration, combat and some puzzles to solve too. I tried to make the game atmospheric.

Anyway, please have a look if you are so inclined.

Might try it sometime soon, I'm working on my own RPG Maker game and could steal borrow some ideas from it.

I'm wondering has anyone tried the game yet?
Another thing I'm not sure about is if you need to have the RPG Maker VX ACE RTP package installed to play it, since I have it installed already.

I don't believe so. Once you make a distribution package, it becomes its own .exe/binary package/APK/etc iirc. That's how it works in MV anyway

I'm searching for a good Sci-Fi RPG. The ideal to me will be something like Final Fantasy in Space. Thats why I decide to check your work.

Unfortunately there is no RPG part ... its pretty much classic quest/adventure. Luckily for you I love classic sci-fi quest/adventures like Space Quest. I don't know what is your intent but the main hero is a little bit goofy to me as the main protagonist of Space Quest - Roger Wilco. So thats is another PLUS for me. TBH I was suck so much in the story so I played like 3-4h without a break (something that only excellent AAA game can make me)! The spicy sexual reference/humor/battle are well imbued without being silly, naive or voulgar.

I think your strong side is the story and if you make it a pure quest/adventure without the useless RPG part. As a main weakness I see the interaction with the environment - add much, much more interactions this will make the game believable, this will immerse the player! For example - there are many consoles that do ... nothing! When the player interact with a console, let it give some info about what part of the ship is, points the main things in that section (like cafe, engineering,...) add some background info about the ship, the mission,... Quest items - they are available as soon as the story unfold. Its ok for some of them, but let other be pickable/discoverable while you explore, otherwise you must always look around whole ship to see where new activities will appear (and that just kill the game play).

P.S. I got stuck. After a guy was squished, a got the hidden knife, but the officer that asked to find the knife is talking and is 'busy' so I could not progress the story ...

Thanks for your critique. I sort of thought too I should add some more interactive points, but I was focused on finishing the game, so I didn't want it to distract me for too long. I like your suggestions about the consoles giving info about the ship. Maybe I'll update the game at some point.

The beginning of the game is more linear, it gets more RPGey as it progresses.

After you find the knife, you should go to the lower port wing.
