I also did some non-combat runs for snacks (since they're very short).

One loremaster completionist run using guide from the same guy above.

And a non-combat thief run, which is actually a legit thing. The run still has some inescapable combat but it's not a problem since you have either allies or bombs. Ended with 5 bodycount with no combat skills (Cassius and the rest with bombs)

Think my DR run just got ended by robots. Played solo dodge build with spear, and it was super effective against human enemies (losing actions to interrupt or dodge really shat on them), decent with creatures (at max dodge, most of them basically cannot hit you. Scolopedras just whish impotently as you cull them), but fucking robots have high enough hit chance to negate your dodge and high enough armor to shit all over you. Got past the first three encounters using consumables, but that last shooter before the sarcophagus just rapes me

One of the patches nerfed interrupts. Less damage, less -DR chance. Before patch you could just kite them as evidenced by ironman spear run by some guy.

And if you waste all your consumables on robots, you will be fucked with emperor or aurelian waves

Yeah, I could use all of my bombs and just force that fight, but that'd just delay the inevitable. In general, interrupts never deal any damage unless enemy has super low armor (think 3 or 4 damage per interrupt on average, with 6 STR and a steel dori spear), and decreate DR in about 20% of cases. Their main utility is in robbing enemies of their AP. In any case though, the spear wasn't really the problem, the dodge is. Dodge is REALLY good for the bulk of the game so long as you stay ahead of the curve, as nothing can touch you. But by end game, everyone's stats are pumped enough that they reach you, even if you pump it to max, at which point you're basically fucked. Sure, enemies will only have like 40% chance to hit you or something along those lines, but that's way, WAY too much on solo, especially since you aren't running with much armor on you. That's not to mention that low-penalty armors also tend to have low vsCS, meaning you'll be eating crits left and right, especially with the robots' flurry (but also any knife fighters you meet beforehand, but those can usually be killed quickly).

Overall I'd rate a dodge build as fairly smooth sailing once it gets going, up until you reach endgame where it basically implodes. It's especially good against creatures – it shits on them relentlessly since their hit chance is especially low, meaning they can't spam poison at you either (block builds may want to pump alchemy sooner for good antidotes)

I am not sure if block builds are even viable for solo. Early game you are forced to use shit shields and shit armor and then game throws poison enemies at you. It spells "fucked"

If you want to try again I can only recommend dodge + sledgehammer. While it lacks organic crowd control, the damage output is good and consistent. I almost made it to the end with it. Robots weren't much of a problem

I think I'll take a break for a while before trying again, and will try block build just to see how far I can get. Poison enemies may get countered by antidotes – high alchemy antidotes last a long time, and I noticed the game is actually quite generous with the ingredients for them (far more than with virtually any other ingredient in the game).

Oh yeah, by the way, I managed to not get hit by a single bomb this playthrough :) The correct way to handle alchemists is to nuke them with your own bombs the moment the combat starts. They usually carry 2 or 3, so if you play your cards right, you might actually come outta the fight a bomb richer than you entered it with.

Also, in my opinion, armors are much less useful in DR than in AoD. In AoD tanking buys you a lot of time unless enemies crit you. In DR, even non crit hits can still ignore much of your armor because of weapon mastery on many of the enemies.

In my 10 INT 10 CHA run I was prancing around in top notch steel imperial armor which should provide at least some protection, and I didn't feel that at all.

Going to try loremaster for once. I am just about done with Teron, siding with Antidas and not the maadoran guy (gaellius?) for once. I didn't know loremaster is partially compatible with merchant which was my favourite playthrough so far so that's cool

Loremaster is probably my favorite after many playthroughs. You can do it different ways, but it allows you the most freedom to make your character into a sort of Indiana Jones type.
As far as I remember it is also the best start to become a
God

The atmosphere and the worldbuilding in this game is top notch. It's a shame, that instead of expanding on this game and making a sequel, the devs produced that amazon warehouse employee simulator. :M
I ended up messing up and not getting to do a lot of what I wanted to. Instead of
becoming a god I got basically the same ending I always do, being a cuck to agathoth. At least this time I got to fly around that ship and got the chosen one ending.
I learned a lot about what actually happened beforehand by being loremaster. Everything makes sense now and is a bit cooler. I think in order to get the true ending I needed more constitution to
do that swimming check to find that other place.

I liked Colony Ship but I also wish they made a sequel to AoD. Dungeon rats didnt sell well though so I can understand the hesitancy to try again. Not sure why they did a combat only version of the game, people seem to like the lore and interconnectedness of the game more than combat.

My favourite playthroughs are still probably Mercenary or Merchant. I found the political shrewdness of those paths really interesting. I think the only one I haven't tried yet is praetor

Anyone has the mod that imported weapons from Dungeon Rats to age of decadence that was posted on their forum?

Bad sales of Dungeon Rats just showed, that combat was not the best selling point of the franchise. How well did the colony ship do?

He said his company made money on it but too risky to try again since it wasn't enough. There were problems with devs leaving mid project once they got some experience.
