SFI isn't very fond of Starforce so I wouldn't worry. The German release of Brigade E5 published by Peter Games had Starforce, but SFI's North American release did not.

I desperately want this game to turn out well. I really dislike the whole "accessibility" bullshit angle, though.

It kind of highlights just how sad the TBed tactical landscape looks right now. The "biggest" new title coming out is being developed by a no-name Russian studio and "consulted" by a few people who (hopefully) know what they're doing...and is based on an engine that will have seen it's first game around 5 years before JA3 is released (making the technology around 8 years old). And some people wonder why games like this are dying off. Not one publisher will take a chance.

There were many things that made the JA games great, not just the combat which I'm actually pretty sure the new developers can nail, the engine certainly has the potential for it, but also the atmosphere and style and personality of the mercs. I'm not as confident that they'll nail this aspect. If it's similar to Silent Storm, if will pretty much suck in this department. I really hope they get some native speakers to write the English dialog and that the voice actors are as good as in JA2. Ideally they should be the same for the recurring characters, if possible. Minor details, but important to me.

Otherwise, what I've read about the game seems good.

So much potential... I so hope Akella don't skrew this up...

Exactly...I will refrain from passing judgement until I have found out a bit more about all the gameplay features and the overall level of polish.
It is sufficient to say that the expectations are high.

At least Bethesda's not making it. They'd make it similar to Rainbow Six: Vegas and say it captures the spirit of the originals.

what. I loved training militia and seeing them stumble over their own feet getting slaughtered by the redshirts. then having the survivors get a bit better at not blowing themselves up with grenades, eventually holding their own against the regulars. and then I'd be really sad when the spec-ops showed up and killed them all laughing their evil laugh. it was all really dramatic. great game element.

probably the thing I enjoyed most in JA2 actually. the one thing I'd do to make it better would be to make specialized classes of militia (sniper, scout, mortar handler), give them customized behaviors for engaging the enemy, and let the player change these behaviors and the outfitting of the militia. maybe have different AI for different squads even

True. City was/is strategic location in JA 2. Place in which your team could rest/heal/ repair weapons/armor and stop, superior in number, enemy. Earn some money, too (mines). But JA 3 look interesting. IMHO it should be good game - time will tell if its true.
