I would have loved to play deuteros when I owned an Amiga, I never heard of it back then though, I just checked out some youtube videos of it.

Fearghall was pretty bad... as in worse than vanilla Bard's Tale I. I remember the game being pretty buggy and having horrible documentation; also ridiculous magic mouth riddles that blocked progress through the entire game until you could guess WTF the designers were thinking. Not a good memory.
Yeah, that and The Bard's Tale style graphics make you almost eat your brain out from within, and they are guaranteed to ruin further the experience of any game.

I find 90 degree angle tile games to be quite acceptable, but the Bard's Tale shows you the adjacent walls of your present location. It looks like those walls are right ahead of you, but they are actually right where you are.

I look somewhere and think, "That blue wall is where the shopkeeper was," and I walk one step ahead, and I don't see the shopkeeper's house there, and I remember it's exactly behind where I was.

In order to play The Bard's Tale, I took out a my A5 notepad, and started drawing the city map with all its blocks, so I could count how many steps further or back I went in each street. I decided it was too much effort for a game that it did not offer much else either.

How did you see where the shop keepers door was in Faerghail? The towns are all menu driven, not explorable. Or do you actually mean Bards Tale?

I think it is much improved over Bards Tale, in every single way.

The Amiga version of Neuromancer is the best versions of that non-traditional RPG. One of the few cyber-punk rpg's that I am aware of. Are there any more (for any platform)?

Dragonflight
Paladin or Paladin 2
Swords of Twilight
Abandoned Places (horrible name)
Crytal Dragon
Knightmare
Obitus
Spirit of Adventure (another horrible name)

Anyone play any of these and decide if they are worth playing?

Almost all of these are available for PC too.

Dragonflight is an early game by Thalion (Amberstar, Ambermoon, Albion). Mostly familiar interface, but crappy controls. Couldn't tolerate it beyond wandering the starting town a bit.

Paladin games are fantasy squad tactics of sorts. Only played them for few minutes.

Swords of Twilight is Amiga-exclusive. A weird game where you control 3 separate characters in realtime (I think it is intended for split-screen multiplayer). From the description it seemed to be kinda like Lords of Midnight converted to Ultima-style presentation, but controls were so abysmal I couldn't ever leave the room the game begins in

Spirit of Adventure is an early game by Realms of Arkania developers. Bard's Tale like combat.

Trying to remember when the eclipse of the Amiga began where PC games were better. Was it 92, 93..? Perhaps even later?

the "Eclipse" began when PC's began to catch up in the graphics/sound department.

see, i got my first PC around 92-93, and back then it was all Norton Commander and ADLIB soundcards, so i guess, 93-95? i do know that after 94 and the death of Commodore news of Amiga products when silent, except for the occasional AmigaOS version.

'92 sounds about right. That's the year Ultima 7 came out and was a PC exclusive. If only the A1200 had been released a little earlier...

Yeah, 92 is a good bet. That's when PC games caught up, with VGA and digital sound becoming industry standart on the platform.

I'd say the first signs of the Amiga starting to decline was in very late '91, early '92. It was obvious to everyone by the end of 1992, however.

The Magic Candle 2 forced me to make the jump, along with Warlords 2, Carriers at war...too many games were dodging the Amiga.

Like mentioned before, black crypt wich is the best dungeon master clone on the amiga in my opinion. Hired guns off course too .the ishars , you may as well play them on the PC.

Ive tried sword of twilight, its worth looking at , its a little more original than usual, but not very deep.

Cadaver on that list is a very good game, but certainly not a rpg, its an isometric action puzzle game, pretty grphics that age very well, worth a try.

Abandonned palces 1 and 2 is worth getting, oh and if you do, make sure you have a character with create food spell in the beggining, game is a bit harcore, without food and water you die and quick.
Abandonned places is really freeware, the author gave up rights on it , on his blog you will learn he never got paid one penny for it. Really worth playing and it has an automap as well. Its on PC too, but amiga version is superior as well.

Also i see one game missing on that list, battlemaster, its a tactical rpg, was very fun

Now aboutt he amiga eclipse, take ultima underwold, wingcommmander 2, ultima 7 as landmark , thats when it was really worth switching to PC. 92 id say too. And pc eclipse 2009 since everything goes on xbox, and no rpgs released at all.

So...no one can answer my question about the Black Crypt? Whether the OpenGL port for the PC has the same control scheme as the Amiga version?

Why would you bother with an incomplete (to my knowledge) port if you can just play the original on an emulator?

2 reasons:

1) I have yet to get any Amiga emulator up and running properly, despite having been fiddling around with various emulators for over a decade. The Amiga emulators are all just too much of a hassle to get working.

2) If the Amiga version of the Black Crypt uses the same control schematics as the OpenGL port, then I'm not touching the game, period. To say that it's non-intuitive is an understatement. "Horrible" doesn't even begin to describe it.

So I'd very much like an answer to my question before I even think about trying to get an Amiga emulator working.

I fail to see the problem with the controls. You can remap the movement keys to your liking and the rest is standard point & click. Are you another nomask?

Wut? I'm pretty sure WinUAE comes with predefined configurations now.
You merely have to grab the 1.3 Kickstart ROM and you're ready to go.
