Can we do obnoxious things and be total asses on other forums under the pretense that we are from the ESF?

Crysis will be the best RPG ever. It has way better graphics and less reading.

There's also lots or roleplaying. You can sneak around with a silenced pistol and night vision like that guy from splinter cell, or you can get a minigun and role play the terminator. There's also a flamethrower attatchment for the assault rifle, so your character can be a pyromaniac. Or you can cloak and punch people like predator. There's a rifle so you can be teh lone wolf snipar. You can even run off into the jungle with a knife and ignore the storyline as a ninja cartographer!

Besides, its real time not like all those stupid RPG-wannabes where you have to take turns to kill monsters totally ruining your monster-killing inmmersion.

Hi, umm, sorry Im new here, I usually just lurk in places like Bethesda's forums, the NWN forums, and here, but my B/F showed me this just now and I had to register to reply.
Here goes.

Thats the funniest thing I've ever read!!!, but can I just say that your all proving him (I presume its a he) right about his opinions on RPG codex with your comments about him, like saying he obviously LARP's.

I personally don't agree with him. You all seem like stand up guy's to me.

But can you just explain to me why his admission that visuals are important are bad? Isn't he just saying that immersion is most important in a great RPG, and that bad visuals take it away from him? I don't see whats wrong with that.

Can I also just say, Im REALLY looking forward to AoD, I think it looks to be a great and intelligent game. Thank you.

Did your boyfriend remember to mention that half of the links on these boards lead to tubgirl or gayporn?

What's wrong is that immersion isn't the most important in an RPG. This "In an RPG you have to FEEL you are the character" is bullshit.
And welcome to the Codex.

Because there is no such thing as objectively good or bad visuals. Monkey Island 2 still has graphics as good as the day it was released, but I am no longer as impressed as I was then. That doesn't mean I can't stand the look of it or would enjoy playing it less. I even play games with worse visuals sometimes.

Graphics can impress by being superior to what we're used to. Barring virtual reality, it will always be your imagination that lets you be immersed in a game.
Of course I enjoy good graphics, they are a quality of their own, but still just one small element of a game.

Good graphics in games are like fashion, constantly changing. What was good yesterday is laughable tommorow. How idiotic.

I see what you mean. And to be honest, I agree with you and Lumpy, its playing the game, and what it offers that is important.

I just thought you were all being to hard on this chap, he seemed sincere that it was more important for him to connect with his character and the environment than anything else, thats his opinion and he's entitled to it. With that said, he was totally out of line with what he said about RPG Codex, I think you guys are swell, not a 'blemish' or whatever he said. Thats just stupid.

Oh and lumpy, ummmmmmm, thanks, I think.

I wont be eating that chocolate pudding tonight.

I'm a graphics whore but I don't try to claim its the only rational way of measuring game quality, and that any desire for a storyline or choice/consequence is knee jerk bandwagoning. Plus oblivion was kind of ugly as far as I'm concerned. Overdone bloom and shitty facegen will make anything look bad.

I'm pretty sure I replied to this point in the linked thread:
"We are not dismissive of great graphics - we love them as much as anyone here does. We are dismissive of games that don't have much to offer other than great graphics. I hope you are capable of grasping the difference."

Look at it this way: what if your boyfriend tells you that the most important trait in a woman is good looks, without mentioning anything else. Would you still say that there is nothing wrong with that?

Can I also just say, Im REALLY looking forward to AoD, I think it looks to be a great and intelligent game. Thank you.
No, thank *you*.

No, thank *you*.

No No, its a definite thank *you*, yep YOU. If AoD is as great as I believe, and hope its going to be (and Im positive it will be) its a definite thank YOU.

As for that chap Grumpfield, I just thought he was praising up the value of the visuals and the environment rather than playing down the rest. He didn't seem to say anything about that side of things, just argued why he had high regard for good graphics. Thats why I was confused. Maybe Im getting muddled again, I do that sometimes, especially when Im typing not talking.

I did notice that he didn't have anything to say back to you when you weren't dismissive of great graphics :)

Actually, his reason for disliking AoD was "The Codex hated Oblivion, so AoD is being made to make a point, so it will suck."
As for the tubgirl - you weren't actually supposed to click on that.

Wow, that tubgirl didn't even require any chicanery to hook in someone.
