Here are some excerpts from an interesting article.

Video games were like rock and roll back in the 80s and even 90s. Heck, lots of video game music was rock. Mega Man was ‘Rock Man’ after all.

This ‘psychologist’ is so behind the times and is peddling an old notion for money. Video games are now something parents grew up with. The NES generation is now having families and having children.

Video games are what Mom and Dad do. Ewwww. Kids increasingly look at video games as ‘lame’.

So what does everyone think?

Well, before that happens, can some of the younger members of Codexia comment?

If the kids think so many of the 'adult's' games are lame, why are they always trying to find ways to get them?

Does a game actually having a story, and thought past the next explosion mean that 'old people are trying to relive their glory days, but with new sensibilities', or simply that exploding a para-demon doesn't have to be the beginning and the end of the experience?

The market is wide enough that there can be games for those 'hip' kids, while others who want some substance can get that too.

And if gaming is now lame, why is it that we have to deal with the Governments continuously squawking about kids 'needing to put away the Xbox'?

Politicians like having some kind of moral evil to fight so that they can appease their constituencies and gain more power.

Nah, pretty much half the school (and not the nerdy sorts reallyt even though a fair few of them do it too) goes down to the internet cafe after (or during..) school. Everyone and their dog seems to be dropping memes too.

This actually sounds quite insane. I mean, around here, it has only become common to play games since the PS2 came out, at the same time there has never been anything rock, disco or cool about gaming.

BS, kids are even more crazy about games now. Crazy in the bad way. Before, kids would be just very fucking excited about PLAYING a game. Now, they don't even pay attention, they just want to own the fucking game already, then get bored with it in 5 minutes and wait for the next. It's like a collector losing the passion for his collection and only keeps getting more stuff out of habit.

Kids want adult games (and to a kid, "adult" means blood and tittays), but the things their parents played are considered shit because it luks liek shite lolz, therefore they don't really associate themselves with their parents. For them, it's a completely different thing. They are still crazy about playing; but not in the games themselves, just the act of playing.

tl;dr: dumbed down shit+ today's brainless kids = kids are even more crazy about vidya

If anything gaming is more popular/mainstream than it was in the 80's and 90's.

This is idiotic. It's like saying kids dislike television and music because their parents like it.

Kids like video games plenty. They'd turn their noses up to stuff like Contra or the Gold Box games, however.

Yeah that's a ridiculous statement. Video games have gained mainstream acceptance and are embraced by all demographics now, at least in some form or another. They are no longer the domain of the "nerd."

It would be pretty cool if your dad/mum had a collection of all the greats from the 90s and you were a teenager now...

this is fucking retarded, its like saying kids dont like music because our parents didn't.

they might not like old working clothes but they like the new casual outfits even though they are the same thing in appearance.

Yeah. Videogames have been around since the mid 70s. The style of gaming has changed, but for the most part its more popular now than it used to be.

More people game, even if they only play a handful of titles.

Some people will play the snot out of Bejeweled, or WoW, or some free to play Webgame.

Others like their FPS or yearly Madden fix.

Others just get together for Singstar or Guitar Hero or Rockband.

Others play various RPGs.

Whatever, games are in no means done.

Its like saying people don't like movies anymore.

Nobody likes real games anymore, they all just play interactive movies and retard simulators :smug:
