Oh fuck, I'm jacked-up for this :bounce:. I loved Way of the Samurai 1 and 2 and heard they just get better.

Now, they just need to further port WotS3, Valkyria Chronicles, Resonance of Faith, Disgaea 3 and 4, Red Dead Redemption, Wizardry Labyrinth of Lost Souls, Dragon's Crowm. Nier, Armored Core 4 and V and Vanquish and I'll not even be forced to buy a PS3 anymore to play them +M

tbh, there is an element of decline with wots4, at least if you played wots3 first. never played the first two, but in wots3, when you met somebody it automatically meant you could kill them right there provided you were good enough. it was rather an important point and one of the things that contributed for me to it being a great game. wots4 on the other hand often throws you against story npcs only to have them run away from you in sequences, which was fucking annoying as hell when i first played it.

It's not really so bad all in all tho, since the story structure overall is a lot more fleshed out in WotS4 and doesn't feel as arbitrary at times as WotS3. I'd say the improvements in combat system, side quests (if I have to look for the old lady's underwear once more, my head will explode), and storyline flow more than make up for its removal.

Not to mention the kill option with NPCs mostly just closed more elaborate paths. Don't remember if you could kill anyone to get the True Ending path. The best uses of the "cap this fool" options were
taking over the bandit faction, and if you tried to pull it on evil Lord whatshisname he was pleased and fight didn't ensue.
Otherwise it wasn't really that important as a feature.

Also AC 4A and Verdict Day, both of which are VERY superior to their predecessor.
Yea, 4 was more like a demo for For Answer. The V to Verdict Day change wasn't that drastic tho, since V had a better campaign (much longer missions, bigger maps, and the closest thing AC ever got to a coherent story).

As someone who's never played this series before, which entry should I start with?

And why does this series keep getting shitty scores on IGN, metacritic, etc?

I'd say any except 4, since you can't really go back to previous combat system's after 4's much better one. It also bears mention that only 3 and 4 allow for custom-built weapons.

And the low scores are because people are idiots. Famitsu actually gives the games at the very least decent overall scores.

Port will update the save system (in the original you had to talk to a photographer NPC to save) and have keyboard+mouse controls (really curious how that willl work with the fighting system)

Going to be seeing the first screenshots tommorow.

"Moving on I can also inform you that we have agreed to convert another Japanese console game to PC which we’re really excited to be working on, plus we’re close to securing at least one more new product not previously released outside of Japan."

Wonder what they are. Worst case is prob Neptunia Rebirth and Agarest Marriage.

So is this really out this month?

Pro-tip: Do not go for the True Ending path until you've mastered several unarmed styles and made your own custom one (at bare minimum you need Mr. Cap n Shoes' and oldfag smith's style for damage reduction and weapon break counter respectively).

Some characters will also drop different weapons and styles depending on difficulty played at (lower than Hard/Hard and up).
