Ultima, overhead view, hardcore playing : sounds like they are saying what I want to hear. Having nice ideas is one thing, proving you can execute it is another; so far, all they have proven is failure.

"We have 4 different preset characters but we'll let you name them and choose their classes etc"

if it were possible I'll make 4 cynical wranglers and see how they interact but such things are not feasible design, unless they really water it down

Ultima 7 had terrible combat.
Maybe this will be closer to Ultima 6 with it's turnbased combat.
Though I need to see more before I place some money into this project.

Ultima 7 had pretty lackluster/faceroll combat.

Cinematic depiction of Ultima VII combat:

It's not even worth calling it "terrible", the combat simply wasn't the point of the game. It played out automatically FFS

As much as I love the idea of a new, modern Ultima VII, the excecution of their prototype doesn't do anything to me.
What I want is a much prettier, technically more impressive game.

The problem with indiegogo that some people might not have noticed is that most of the campaigns are "flexible" campaigns. It means that they get all of the money pledged regardless of whether or not they meet their goal. Even if they get like 20% they still get the money and you'll probably get nothing. :smug:

I don't see any other explanation to their charging during the fundraising. That is a majorly flawed system. In short, if it stays at $20 as it has all day, two people lose $10. And there is a $2500 tier!

It looks fine. But I don't like the way your party members are stuck together when you move around.

That can probably be fixed with some late stage development polish. And the individual walking animations too.

I think what she is doing is pretty fucking cool. Granted we have no idea where she will eventually spend this money on.....

Why would anyone want to play a fullscale rpg in a brower? I hope they can remake the "living world" that Ultima 7 had.

It's stuck on 20 bucks.
I wonder if they will beat this woman's birthday present to herself.

I am turning 25 on the 26th of April 2012. Wow, I am old.

:hmmm:

I think that's one of those things that never changes, no matter what a person's age is:

'Mummy says I'm 5 today. I'm a big boy!'
'I'm 15 years old! You can't treat me like a child!'
'I'm turning 25 today. Wow, I am old.'
'I'm turning 35 today. Man having kids makes you feel old.'
'I'm 45 this year - my first kid is in high school now. Wow that makes me feel old.'
'I'm 55 and my back hurts. Goddam kid keeps borrowing my car and is out all night. Damn I feel old.'

etc.

But a single player RPG in the browser? Wtf, indeed. Impossible to get immersed in any way, if you ask me...

This is not really a problem. Browsers had basic fullscreen support for years now and the latest versions introduced new APIs so that site content (e.g. games) can request fullscreen itself. Otherwise I don't know why anybody should bother what runtime a game uses as long as it runs well enough. As an added benefit it would automagically enable cross-platform support apart from having to deal with the usual cross-browser/-engine quirks.

The only real problem with this whole thing is indiegogo. No one (or few) will give money and risk being alone, unless the project already has enough backing to give confidence (which requires big coverage, lots of rich/famous friends or a big PR budget, and kind of defeats the purpose). If indiegogo wants to copy the KS model, they should do it properly. But can the KS model accept international projects? There are probably good reasons not to, like increased vulnerability to fraud (fake projects, identity theft...). IG seems little more effective than a donation-based model.
